After landing at Montego Bay...

by mesquite

After landing at Montego Bay we took a shuttle bus to Negril. It takes a few hours and I highly recommend getting a few cold Red Stripe beers outside the airport before departing to help settle your nerves during the trip. The construction and widening of the road may be done by the time you go, but I doubt it.From the resort we took cabs down the beach. The drivers were all really nice guys and may offer to take you for tours. If I'd have had more time I sure would have taken them up on it.

Airplane or Cruise Liner

by shaun929

Taxi's are everywhere, try to get with a driver for your entire vacation (usually someone at your hotel can recommend). Hopefully he will drive you to and from any location you want to go. At the Ritz there are drivers, vans and sedans who will shuttle you to and from your destinations. Be warned that when local merchants see you pull up in a Stretch Lincoln, you definitely won't get any deals.

Not sure there is a good way...

by AdHocTravel

Not sure there is a good way to get around Jamaica. The road system is pretty much one lane in each direction and the drivers tend to be rather 'adventurous!' Watch out. I would not encourage you to drive yourself. If you need/want to go somewhere outside your resort, hire a driver and be prepared to take longer than you ever thought it should to reach your destination!

Getting around in Westmoreland.

by Steve-H

If you are going to a Jamaican resort the chances are you wont be going too far but if like me you choose to spend your time out in the country with the real people then the local taxis are going to be a real eye opener. The little toyota vans that wizz around the island have been known to take 21 people, i know, i was one of them. If you are leaving town then the taxi doesn't go until it is full, but they are cheap and the people are friendly. To find a taxi going in your direction just listen out! they drive round calling out their destination. The best thing to do is stick your thumb out, if someone has room they'll stop for you, especially if its a pick-up. Here's Trevor, who i went to Jamaica with, showing how it's done.

Most people take land...

by Davidp1952

Most people take land transportation from the airport to their resort, although air shuttles are available. The ride to the resort is an adventure. The road is narrow, small, and crowded. Cows and goats graze along the road (but they never seem to get hit by cars!).After a couple a vehicle trips, you can actually open your eyes while riding...you get used to it.

The best way to travel to...

by Superremi

The best way to travel to Jamaice is by plane. There's a small easy airport in Montego Bay and also an airport in Jamaica's capital Kingston. By bus or taxicab you'll be transferred to your hotel. You'll be able to rent a taxicab to get around the island. You're also able to do some site seeing by helicopter!

The best way to get around is...

The best way to get around is to hop on a bus or grab a taxi. But if your going to drive, Remember these:Road manners. Jamaican drivers are neither the most cautious nor the most courteous in the world. They speed, pass on the wrong side, stop in the middle of the road to have a chat and honk or yell at other drivers who cross them. For your part, do not be afraid to use your horn; this is a necessary survival skill especially on winding mountain roads and in village streets thickly populated with loungers, livestock and children.

Fly into Montego Bay Airport...

by holligolytly

Fly into Montego Bay Airport and take an approx 2hr ride to Sans Souci, Ocho Rios.To newcomers, this ride could be quite disturbing. The first time I did it, I swore we were going to wreck into an oncoming vehicle or at least hit one of the farm animals walking along side. Jamaicans drive crazy mon! And heaven forbid your stay is during a flood. If you need to drive back to Montego Bay to catch a plane when there has been a flood, you are in for an adventure!take a taxi, or most resorts offer van services for shopping/sight seeing.
