There is a very nice and easy hike you can take in the north of the island. It's called 'Canal des Esclaves' or 'Canal de Beauregard'. It's an 18th century canal built by slaves, which runs from Fonds St. Denis to le Carbet. Start just outside Fonds St. Denis and just follow the canal and return the same way. It's an easy walk but you have to be careful as you walk on a small ridge with sometimes a deep abyss next to you. It's about 1,5 hours for the return trip. You can also do a bit and return before, of course.
Just south of Trois Ilets is the beautiful secluded beach of Anse Noire. Not only is the water so clear that you can see incredible fish, but you have also big chances of seeing a couple of very big sea turtles in the water. They are at least half a meter long and so they must be very old. For us this was an unforgettable experience.
Many travelers visit the Southern part and fort-de-France, but forget that Martinique has dozen and dozen of tiny islands (îlets in french).'Le havre du Robert' is a good exemple. It is a bay located on the East side with about 10 îlets. One of them if full of giant lezards (one of the two unique place you can see them in Martinique) and one of them has a beach (go there during the week, you will be alone)... The best if you want to visit them is to ask a fisherman at Le Robert for exemple...

There is a boat that leaves here and goes to St. Lucia and another that goes to St. Maarten.
Check out the sugar cane plantations while you're in Martinique. You haven't really tasted sugar until you've chewed on a piece of sugar cane! There's even a Sugar Cane Museum!
