The west side of Curacao has several protected white sand beaches. The shore slopes gently to about 15 meters then drops off sharply creating a wall for coral and larger sea life. Although I have been certified for 3 years, I had never taken an unescorted dive. The Marriott scuba center quoted me close to $500 to take 4 divers on a 2 tank morning dive off the coast of the resort. SInce the waters were rough I decided to take a drive to another location and look for a dive shop. In Lagun, I Was greeted by a quiet gentlemen at Discover Diving who proceeded to show me a map of the underwater area and suggested I would be fine with an unescorted dive. He suited up my entire family for about $80 for the day and we were welcome to get fresh tanks for $6/each. The dive was wonderful and I saved $400 which paid for my car rental for the week.

Okay, so maybe we aren't right in our minds, but swimming with the sting rays while trying to feed sharks and sea turtles was pretty amazing! We also swam with the dolphins. This was all at the aquarium. The aquarium is a little off of the beaten path. You see, I was mistaken when I got there. I figured I could walk to everything. I mean, it all appears as if you are in a small city and the island only looks 4 miles wide. I was mistaken. Take teh bus or shuttle.

Curacao has natural Aloe Vera plants.
This world famous plant has natural healing powers!
It can be used externally to treat various skin conditions such as cuts, burns and eczema, and eases pain and reduces inflammation.
So knowing this, I stopped at the road to get a leaf of this wonderplant..
But offcourse you can also visit the plantations, where you get general info and where you can buy Aloe Vera products!

Curacao beaches are paradise beaches.
One of the biggest beach (wich is not very big) is Knip Beach (see picture)
If you don't like crowded beaches, you might want to avoid Sundays, when the locals come here to have a day full of fun and barbeque!

Bring your snorkeling or dive gear,
Curacao has some of the clearest water in the Caribbean, with average visibility running anywhere from 80-140 feet (25-40m) which will help you fully appreciate the 80 miles of pristine coral reef encircling the island.
Tropical fish, sea turtles, seahorses, eels, and (if you're lucky) even dolphins just swimming around you!
I found a website with 80 different dive locations:

Come and visit the Curaçao Ostrich Farm and take the opportunity to meet these fascinating birds up-close and personal. You can touch them, feed them even ride them (for real daredevils only). Every hour a safari truck will take you on a remarkable tour through the farm corals where the ostriches live. All you have to do is announce yourself at the restaurant that is located at the entrance. You can also eat ostrich meat dishes and buy some souveniers at the shop.

Architecture! Our capital of Willemstad is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as of 1997. I assure you: it's worth it!
You can either visit some wonderful buildings downtown or our beautiful countryhouses in the countryside; several of them house musea, restaurants or shops, so you can combine architecture with history. This townhouse is an art gallery.

During the day you can swim, bake in the sun, ride the boat, waterbike, canoe, hike, ride horseback, have a nice lunch and some tropical drinks. A beautiful site to see the sun set.
