L'Alabama: Fine French Fare in Grand Case

by TRimer

L'Alabama is named for a little-known place in Greece where owners Karin and Pascal Potin met. He was a bartender and she was a student. Together with Chef de Cuisine Franck Vuillemin, they create memorable French cuisine with a highly creative touch. Pairing raw with cooked and sweet with sour, they bring you exotic flavors in even the simplest of dishes. The service here is excellent (it can be a little snooty at some places on the marina). I had the warm goat cheese salad- delicious. The entrees were fabulous. My mom had the pork tenderloin with cinammon and carmelized apple sauce which she refused to share.

Marigot Marina

by TRimer

Try out any of the restaurants at the Marigot Marina. Here at the marina you will find brasseries and bistros as well as fine restaurants will satisfy the most discriminating gourmet. My favorites include Belle Epoque (good pizza) and Chanteclair. Le Saint Germain is also very good.

What makes these foods unique...

What makes these foods unique is that they come from the Jewish heritage of the island of Curaçao. Try the following dishes:Ayaca -steamed chicken with prunes, raising, green pepper, pickles, olives and onions.Keshi Yená -stuffed edam cheeseStobá di Kòmkòmber -Curaçao cucumber stew (not the cucumber used in salads.Stobá di karni -beef stewArroz con Pollo - chicken with riceCurried Peanut ChickenArepita de Pampuna -pumpkin frittersSaté -marinated meat on skewersBitterbal -Dutch style croquettesSòpi de Pisca -fish soupSòpito -coconut-fish soupGiambo -okra soupBakiou -creole style codfishSòpi di Galiña -chicken soup

Mi Poron a restaurant...

by jake22

Mi Poron a restaurant specializing in local foods, but was closed all week this trip. It was still advertised but no explanation for closing. It was still closed in 2003, this appears to be a permanent closing.Mi Poron is open only for dinner and doesn't open until 6 pm. There is both indoor and outdoor dining areas. There is a museum in the front which shows some of the early settlers life style. The food is good and the prices are competitive. The chicken special was breast meat with a sauce of prunes, black and green olives, pearl onions and raisins, covered with cheese.

Rainbow Cafe: Views in Grand Case

by TRimer

One of the oldest restaurants in Grand Case. During the twenty-two years that Rainbow Café has pleased its diners, the reviews have always been favorable. Just this year alone it was featured in the NY Times Sunday Travel Section, Travel and Leisure, and the Wine Spectator's 'Treasures of the Caribbean' issue. The French-based cuisine is spiced with Caribbean flavors and enhanced by the beautiful dining room with its fantastic views across Grand Case Bay.

Claude Mini-Club: French Creole Dining

by TRimer

Always a favorite, Le Mini-Club is the oldest restaurant in Marigot. The atmosphere like a tree house with palm trees coming in through the floor. French/creole food. They are known for their fish soup. Don't miss their buffet on Wedneday and Saturday nights, which includes lobster and many other items ($40- pp including unlimited wine, tip and a wonderful entertainer during dinner).

The night of our engagement

by Chrystalain

We went in this lovely restaurant and had a very nice but expensive dinner. While talking, we decided to get engaged. No ring. Just our word and our love. The day after, I asked Alain if he had changed his mind. He said no. We went back to the restaurant and took apicture of us at the table we were the evening before. We also took a picutre of the people who own this restaurant, French and Quebecers. Very nice people. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the restaurant’s name but I am searching for it. It is on the road from Mullet Beach to Cupecoy Beach. Since we had asked for the empty bottle of wine we drank (a nice rosé), we filled it of the Cupecoy Beach sand. It is still in my livingroom. That was our engagement ring.

Terrace restaurant at Willemstadprices are rather expensive, because most goods must be brought to the island by boat or plane...If you must go to a supermarket, take an ordinary one, never shop at 'Suikertuintje' very expensive and the cockey people there are rude to the locals!! Fish with frenchfries and fruitbreakfast, yummy!

Rum Runners: Rum Runners

by jake22

This restaurant is located on a deck on the waterfront. The prices are competitive and the food was excellent. They also have a managers rum punch party with free rum punches and snacks on Monday night from 6 to 7, during which time, the 75 year old Captain Don, mingles with the guests grilled fish of the day, and their potato soup with leeks.
