Heineken Regatta
With the slogan of "Serious Fun", Heineken sponsors several days of top level racing around the island on the first weekend in March culminating in a round the island race. Since 1980, the St. Maarten Yacht Club has organized the regatta, the biggest in the Caribbean. Sailors from around the globe flock to St. Martin to compete.The race always follows the same schedule. Thursday’s captain’s briefing is followed by the opening party, which features upcoming local bands. On Friday the venue shifts to Marigot, which features a wide variety of French cuisine. During the Zouk Extravaganza, the island’s version of merengue music is played until the early hours. Saturday the action is back in Philipsburg where international bands rock the house.
