Getting Around Departamento de Matagalpa

We decided to get a taxi from Managua to Selva Negra. It is about a 2 hour drive and we paid $80, It was expensive and you can get a taxi cheaper but we did not know at the time what the going rate is, I would say that $50 would be about right. You can get a bus to Matagalpa and then get a taxi to Selva Negra or get a bus from Matagalpa to Jinotega and hop off at the entrance to Selva Negra which is marked by a tank, it will be a lot cheaper but it will take much longer. The walk from the road to the actual hotel is about 1.5 kilometres with a steep hill at the end, something to consider if you have a heavy pack.
