Take care with the Ferries schedules because they may change without notice, i was supposed to get back in the 3.00pm ferry and someone told me, the ferry is leaving at 2,30pm (the last is at 4,00pm) so i had to run to the small port to cath the boat.

DO NOT FEED THE MONKEYS!
A dumb girl fed some monkeys from out of a canoe. The monkeys jumped and attacked her and see had to be taken to the hospital in Granada for shots. Where they messed up the shots and she had to be taken back to the states.

Right before I got to Ometepe, two young men attempted to hike the volcano alone and ended up missing. They were just found dead.
The hiking is no joke - there are serious dangers in the jungle and a guide is required in order to ensure your safety. They also earn money from your trips and can show you things you may not see on your own.

Do not attempt to climb Maderas or Concepcion Volcanoes without a local guide. Law prohibits this since a couple of guys died in 2004 hiking Concepcion alone.

Remember, if you climb the volcanoes, each is an all day climb. Locals told me many foreigners try to climb the volcanoes in three or four hours. It is an all-day climb!!!

Despite the awful boat trip we had getting to the island it is still worth the visit. The island is like nothing else I have seen before and is a great place to put you feet up and relax.

I travelled to Ometepe during a mission trip, but I still was able to find time for more "touristy" excursions.
