The Finca El Porvenir Petroglyph is a fair sized rock with ancient carvings on located on Isla De Ometepe. As you are on the main road heading to the Volcan Maderas side of the island, you turn right at the intersection and head down that road until you see a sign on the left hand side mentioning this place. The road will be big enough for a car to go down and has concrete treadway for the tire paths and surrounded by rock on both sides. Head down a couple hundred metres and it will be on your right side close to the fence. It's not the greatest site on the island but it's a nice little side trip worthy of 15 minutes of your time.

Well I don't know if you can exactly consider this as "off the beaten path" but I hardly seen anyone on this beach. Playa Santo Domingo is located on the east side of the isthmus of Isla de Ometepe. It is a nice black sand beach that goes on for a few kilometres. I'm very sure the entire beach is public access so you should always be able to find a good spot. Where I was the water was warm and fairly shallow for a ways out. There are no amenities located here but there are a couple of hotels that are close to the beach so anything you might need you should bring. It was nice to walk for a while and not a single person try to bother you or sell you something. If you are on this island, you should definately try to make the trip here.
