Snorkeling and Diving
Beside swaying in a hammock, lounging on the beach and swimming, there are plentiful snorkeling and diving opportunities on both Big and Little Corn Island. The islands are surrounded by the reef, offering a variety of unique adventure. Stunning untouched corals and sponges, and abundant marine life make this underwater world a beautiful sight. Crystal-clear Caribbean waters offer great visibility, and most snorkeling and diving sites are easily accessible by boat.
The area's most spectacular dive site is an odd, rocky formation known as the Blowing Rock (25 km east of Big Corn Island) which features an amazing variety of marine life and spectacular sights. There are several shipwrecks and the remains of Spanish galleon around Big Corn Island, and beautiful underwater caves and caverns cn be found around Little Corn Island.
Snorkeling is another option to explore the reefs and the underwater wonderland. You can expect to see a large variety of corals, tropical fish, turtles and even large fish. Local guides running daily trips out to the reef are easy to find. Though there was a coral reef within snorkeling distance from my cabaña, one day I took a snorkeling excursion offered by Elsa's son Risdal (also the owner of Comedor Casona). It was a good two-hour excursion by boat (I joined an Australian couple) and he brought us to two different spots. It was 10 US $ per person (December 2010), including snorkel gear. I had my own mask and snorkel so I only needed fins. We saw spectacular marine life, including huge corals and sponges, an amazing variety of colourful tropical fish, manta rays, nurse sharks, barracudas, among others. It was a great snorkeling adventure and will happily do it again when I (hopefully!) return to a paradise called Little Corn Island :)

The water is so clear and smooth making it effortless and calming. Great first thing in the morning.
Gives you access to cool coves like Moss cove, north of the dive shop.
Equipment: Rent the Kayaks from Casa Iguana dive shop. Bring along snorkeling gear to snorkel off the boat. Remember sun screen and water.
Corn Island is an amazing place to go diving. The water is so clear, the reefs and marine life look really healthy, good selection of dive sites and not overcrowded with people. As far as I know there is only one dive outfit on Big Corn Island and this is it. This place is also a restaurant that has good pizza and has accomodations. The price for two fun dives is US $55. The equipment is ok as I needed to have some hoses replaced due to it losing air really fast. Our divemaster was pretty good and was gung ho for the diving as he in and under the water very quickly which was nice. Although his combination of the frog kick and a speedo was disconcerting at times. They also do snorkel trips with there glass bottem boat. Basically it would be a waste if you came here and didn't get in the water.
