nicaragua is all off the beaten path. One path you dont wanna travel is the one going to managua, what a ***sville, get the *** out as soon as you can dudes!
the carribean side is less habited and more dangerous especially in Bluefields, but then again, the vatican can be dangerous if youre not careful.
i really enjoyed the boat rides on nicaragua especially the 'Catamaringue'
The Southern end of Nicaragua...
The Southern end of Nicaragua is great. I hit the Northern area and of course Managua, but the South is beautiful. Would like to go to the Corn Islands and Bluefields next time. Have a friend that has told me great things about these areas.

Go to the smaller towns! While the larger cities are wonderful and definately should not be missed, go to smaller places where you will be able to hang out in the smaller town plazas and have the chance to meet more people. If you are willing to do a little bit of asking around, you can usually rent a bed in somebody's house for a night or two if the town has no hotels. Try the town of San Marco, you may be able to stay at the boys and girls club there, or there is a very nice hotel run by a man from Spain there. (If anybody knows the name of this hotel, please email me and tell me!) You can easily catch a bus near the plaza that will take you to Jinotepe or Masatepe (it's inbetween these two towns) and from there to Masaya, Managua...
These two boys were my "mudpool-guides" - Juan and Antonio... Nice guys who showed us around and told us about the mudpools - very interesting ;-)Related to:

We thought we would be able to swim in nice hotsprings near San Jacinto.... but when we arrived we didn't really want to jump in... Very muddy and smelled bad :-)Related to:
Not something you see everyday!
This is a picture of the remains of a manatee. Look closely, you will see a young croc sunning itself.
North of El Transito is the beautiful sandy beach El Velero, with clear water and good waves (for surfing maybe?).
The road leading to El Velero is not the best, but it is worth a visit.Related to:
