If you're feeling brave and adventurous, this cantina in downtown David is quite good to beat the heat and recharge yourselves over a few drinks.
Literally a few steps off the main square. AC full blast, tinted windows, multi TV's with sports channels on, football decor. Place is small, but quite clean. We went there a few times last month in fact. Only one barmaid.
Clean washroom.
Never had a problem there.
65 cents a beer.

This was the first place we hit after checking in at Hotel Iris.
Located on the second floor of the hotel, it has a separate street level entrance to the right of the hotel entrance. Prices were very reasonable. We had breakfast and dinner there a few times in our past visits. There you would find both westerners and locals enjoying drinks and meals. Their balcony was always full at night during busy hours.
Food quality was good. Westernized menu items. Very good coffee, as expected. Cheap local beer, as expected.
Service was a bit slow when it's busy, not exactly a problem to be honest. It does not have AC so at times it will get slightly stuffy if you are sensitive to the hot weather.
Did not open on Sunday, so beware.
It's one of our favorite place to have our evening drinks in David. Will definitely go back.

We went there recently, the place is now run by a fellow Canadian. Place was updated and nicer with the new bar. Seatings in the balcony are now more safe ( those who have been there wold know what I mean ;)
Did try the food but will go back for sure.

We did. The first time we walked past Multi Cafe, the one not far from local department store Romero, we were wondering what the heck was this dimly lighted fast food looking joint ... especially quite a few local pointed us to eat there. We ended up eating there quite a few times, we enjoyed it.
Multi Cafe ( there are two of them ) is basically a cafeteria style budget restaurant that serves both local and western dishes. Both places have air con, quite clean, and usually packed full of local office workers during lunch hours.
Prices are very reasonable. For a dish of meal with a soft drink, less than $ 4 USD, cheaper than a McD combo. They also serve jumbo shrimps and fish, in addition to Pizza, sandwiches, local rice and bean, chicken/beef/pork, vegie dishes. We are not big eaters, so usually we'd split a dish during lunch.
There are 2 of them. One next to Romero, and the other one not far from the 2 tower church. They are quite close by to each other anyway. We prefer the one close to the church.
Do not serve beer and close early , like 8 PM.
Lunch hours can get very busy .... long line up.
Favorite Dish: Their Mondongo ( cow tripe ) dish with white rice and salad. Coffee is good too.

They do have McD's in David.
Should you need that fix :) McD's is a wee bit away from downtown centre. You can either take a taxi there ( under 2 USD ) or take a mini bus ( about 35 cents , from the bus station )
Mind you though, McD's is not the cheapest meal one can get in David , or elsewhere in Panama.
