    Getting around in taxi's

by vtdanny Updated Apr 9, 2011

Getting around within the city by taxis ain't expensive.
Mostly the fare would be from $ 1.50 to $ 2 USD. From the bus station to various hotels in central David for example is $ 1.75 to $ 1.80 from our experience. And Taxi's are plenty.

When in doubt about taxi fare, ask your hotel front desk for info. They have been quite accurate in giving us a pretty close estimations. You know, if the Panamanian local is paying $ 1.75 for the fare, why should you pay $ 2 ? It's another story if you don't mind paying more than you should. Mind you, a dollar goes a long way in Panama, especially in the country side :)

So far, we have not met any taxi drivers that were over charging. And sadly, I cannot say the same about Panama city.

Local rate for getting around David is 1.50 USD.

From the bus terminal to hotels around downtown David is 1.50 USD

From the same hotels to bus terminal is 1.50 USD

As usual, if going for further distance please agree on a price before getting in any car. Consult with a local before hand would be best.

The taxi info as per my last update still stands.

Rate to go from downtown David to the department store Conway, at Plaza Terronal, is $ 2.00

Max you should pay for that distance would be $ 2.50 and no mas.

    Problems in David Bus Station

    by Over60 Written May 28, 2009

I arrived in David by plane and wanted to continue on by bus to Finca La Suiza, which is along the route to Bocas del Toro. The cab delivered me to the right bus, and I told the bus driver where I wanted to go; however, he rudely refused to let me board the bus. Instead, he kept me waiting for a good 15 minutes until the last minute, presumably waiting for a traveller who was going further along the route and would. therefore. pay more. My Spanish is almost nonexistent, but rudeness and greed are about the same in any language, and there is no doubt that that is what was going on here.

To David by car or bus.

by vtdanny Written May 5, 2009

Traveling from Panama City by bus would cost about $ 12 to $ 15 USD per person, from the Albrook bus station in Panama City. It is a 6 hour trip with stopover at Santiago.

Traveling from the Costa Rican border, Paso Canoas, to David by mini bus ( they have many of them anyway ) costs about $ 1.75 per person. Depends on the stops for other passengers, the trip is about a bit over an hour. By taxi though or by car, about 30 mins. Taxi is about $20 to 25, you should always bargain since local rarely do that trip by taxi and spend that much.

    Less time to fly

You can drive to David from Panama City in around 7 hrs or you can fly there in less than 2 hrs.
We flew on Aeroperlas from the domestic airport. At that time it was located downtown but now it is located at the old air force base outside of town.

Get a car from one of the rental companies located at the airport and then drive to the beach or Boquete to get cooled off.
