Luggage and bags: Expandable luggage with one larger one with wheels. Carry-on with handy pockets.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Good sturdy shoes for walking, umbrellas are cheap and better purchased in Panama as Airline security may confiscate your umbrella.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Most medicine available without prescription and of much better quality (not generic) than is available in Canada. Be as informed as the locals by reading up on your requirements before leaving home.

Photo Equipment: Film is of questionable quality in some places, bring your own or use a digital camera. Also bring a small good quality flashlight as some beach side cottages shut their generators late at night.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Common sense, wear long pants and good shoes like the locals hiking in the country. Cuffs of pants dipped in permethrin will keep insects out. A cap dipped in same will keep ticks and sandflies out your hair.
Only the tourists in Shorts and Sandals gets bitten or stung by scorpions and snakes.

Miscellaneous: Ask the locals about the safety of the area, undercurrents at the beach, crocodiles near streams may not be apparent to the tourists but the locals nearly always know where danger lurks.
