The city of Arecibo, the largest municipality of Puerto Rico, was founded in 1616 by Don Felipe Beaumont y Navarra. Although historical documents by Don Cayetano Coll y Toste have stated that there was a Indian settlement on this location as earlier as 1511. Maiking Arecibo the oldest continous habitated town in Puerto Rico. The city's nickname La Villa del Capitan Correa derives from a victorious battle between a local military, Don Antonio de los Reyes Correa, against an English conquering mission on 1702.
