When we started planning our trip this was instantly on the top of the list. It can be difficult to get to Culebra from the mainland, plan ahead and try to reserve tickets on the ferry - this worked out great for us. The ferry to Culebra Island is about an hour and 15 minutes and you can take a short taxi ride to Flamenco Beach. The beach was fabulous, better than anything we saw in San Juan. The water was as clear as can be and the sand powdery white; the beach was super clean. We rented some snorkle gear at the beach for 10$ each and went around the little reefs there. They have boats that will take you to snorkle on other parts of the island, but I really dont enjoy it for more than 20-30 minutes so Flamenco was all I needed. We felt safe leaving our stuff on the beach while we swam as its a small beach with only 30 or so other beach goers. I loved that it wasnt super busy and you felt like you were somewhat isolated from the rest of the world.

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip! I would highly recommend visiting Flamenco to anyone going to PR.

Of all the truly gorgeous beaches on the island of Culebra, nine miles off the main island's eastern coast, Flamenco leads the pack. This island municipality is a paradise of beaches so perfect they are almost impossible to believe.

The crowning jewel is Flamenco Beach, recently named one of the Best Beaches in America and Best Escape Beach by the Travel Channel. A magnificent mile or so of pure white coral sand framed by Culebra's arid, sun-toasted hills, it is protected as a Marine Wildlife Reserve by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources. Here, you can escape from the crowds, jet skis and motorized sea vessels found on many of the major beaches on the main island of Puerto Rico.

In Culebra you can access a lot of very good snorkeling reefs from the beach. That means you get there either by car or on foot. Good snorkeling is found on Melones and Carlos Rosario beaches.
