Don't count on street signs
We flew into San Juan, and rented a car to drive to our resort in Fajardo. Now we traveled in 2005, so things could have improved...but somehow, I doubt it. There were really no good streets signs leading us to the resort in Fajardo. The rental car company gave us directions to the resort. The directions were...'turn left at the Burger King', 'turn right at the church'... We managed to find it, but driving at night, I was starting to get worried... Is that white building the church? Do you think we found the right place?
Just something to be prepared for. We found it, even back before we had a GPS..Related to:

Drive down route 3 from San Juan. It is about an hour in regular traffic, but can easily be 2 hours in morning, lunch or afternoon rush.
Gas is the same price as the states, but priced per liter. About 28 cents per liter on 2/2002. We used $10 worth of gas in a week of mostly local driving and a trip to El Yunque and Humacao.
