The Red Monkey: Old San Juan on the cheap

by dtaylor35

https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Red-Monkey/230135757476?sk=wallMuch of the bars and eating establishments in the Old San Juan area can be hard on the wallet. The Red Monkey is worth the small walk away from the touristy places closer to the cruise ships for a cozy intimate atmosphere, cheap drinks, friendly service and surprisingly good food. This night spot is open evenings most days of the week, though their busiest day is Sat where some crowds come to stay and chat and some hit this spot for cheap drinks before moving down to the more populated, though higher priced, bars downtown. This spot is also a good place to end the night after spending 6-9pm at Sr. Frogs for their Wed ladies night (free drinks).. or just any night downtown in general.PS if you enjoy your time there, friend them on facebook. Anything goes

Pool Palace: Best of both worlds

by BergsFinest

Pool Palace was a unique place right in Old San Juan. It's located in the same complex as Senor Frog's, but has a different atmosphere. I went there with my friends that live in Puerto Rico. It was more a local hot spot. There were rows and rows of pool tables located in between a few bars. At around 11, the large dancefloor opened up and everyone busted a move. It was a great time, with multiple bars. If you don't feel like dancing, hustle somebody in a game of pool. Dress to impress...everyone else will

Lupi's: Best of both worlds

by Natalllya

Both of both worlds. The outside of Lupi's is a charming and small patio that surrounds the bar. Excellent drinks and food while over looking the busy street life on Isla Verde Avenue. Inside, a club unfolds approximately 10 p.m. with live Spanish Rock Bands and Top 40 DJ. You get dinner, drinks, dancing and music all in one and for an affordable price. Casual.

Lupi's Mexican Grill and Sports Cantina: Mexican Restaurant & Bar, live bands and karaoke

Señor Frog de la Isla: Completely packed on a Tuesday night!!

by CLillard

We started out eating dinner here at 8 pm on a Tuesday. The live band and MC entertainment started at 9:30 pm. This place got so packed! Don't worry if you are claustrophobic because they open extra rooms and if you need more space you can move to the edges, away from the band/dancefloor. There is a mixture of tourists and locals here. The only downfall is that the drinks are expensive. My drink was good, called "Ticket to Fly" and it was $6. If you eat at the restaurant there's no cover charge. We also went on a Friday night and the cover charge was $7. By the way, on a Saturday night the entrance line gets very long. If you play your cards right, you can convince the bouncers to let you bypass the line and get in free. What I did was walk up to the bouncer and say "is this the line to get in" or maybe I said "how long does the line take". I'm also a girl, so of course I blinked my...

Condado Casinos: Gambling at the hotels in Condado

by kazander

The Condado area near San Juan has lots of Hotels with Casinos...We popped into the Casino at the Marriot for, oh about 15 minutes. Lou was in the mood to gamble, but when we got there, we could tell it wasn't a winning kind of a night. The Casino is not all that big, but they do have $2 roulette tables :) The Hotel is pretty though, we wandered around, checked out the pool and the beach, and a live band was playing at the bar (though they were not good enough to keep us sticking around) No open sandals or flip flops for the guys, or tank tops. Girls can get away with a lot more...or less depending on how you look at it.

Senor Frog's: Not your typical Senor Frog's

by BergsFinest

I went to Senor Frog's expecting it to be exactly like the one in Mexico. All tourists just having the local drinks in the yard glass. This was not true. It was all a Puerto Rican crowd in their 20's with a live band, dressed to impress. We went in shorts, which was a mistake. They allowed us in, just because of the fact that we seemed like tourists. It was a good time, all in all. Dress nice, no shorts, sandals or sneakers

Maria's: Get "La Nota"

by BergsFinest

This is a small bar at the end of Calle del Cristo, off Calle San Sebastian. They have great frozen drinks with Don Q rum. The local thing to do is get "La Nota". This is an funny expression for someone being very drunk, especially after the Festival de San Sebastian. "La Nota", the drink, is very potent, so I don't recommend ordering for yourself....maybe an unsuspecting friend. Anything goes, I do recommend actually wearing clothes though
