Luquillo Beach   San Juan

Luquillo Beach, San Juan

Paseo Piñones

by lonestar_philomath

Paseo Piñones is a recreation area featuring a boardwalk and lookout tower along the shoreline and an elevated boardwalk through the mangroves. A great place for kayakers, beach lovers and walkers. There are also a number of beach front restaurants in this area.

Visit Pinones - 7 mins from San Juan

by Texeyes

This is a very authentic part of Puerto Rico. The town prides itself on keeping it real. It is nothing fancy but one of my favorite places to visit on the island. The beach is great, the food is fresh, there is a great trail, perfect places for rememberable photos, and a true local feel.I might have misspelled the towns name, but will try to update it in future posts.

Old San Juan

by justintobias

These are the forts that kept San Juan safe from the 16th to the 19th Centuries. They used to house the city and all the Spanish possessions and have withstood numerous wars, and countless hurricanes. You will need a digital camera with lots of memory, good waking shoes, a hat, sunscreen if you burn and at least 1 full day to expolre this awesome example of history and old school archetecture.

Piñones for sunsetting

by chodearm

This place seems local. Theres no towns in sight. Along the road is dirt path turn-offs that will put your engine right next to the ocean. The strip of sand here is basically uncharted here. No people walking, just distant cars parked between shrubbery catching the sun dipping into darkness. That long walk at sunset on a beach that you claimed you liked in the "WHO I'M LOOKING FOR" section of your Personal AD...well here is, your set, now walk hand in hand lovers.

Take the long way

by BergsFinest

If you're heading to Luquillo or Fajardo from San Juan, don't hesitate to take Avenida Isla Verde (Route 37 or 17 it turns into, I forget) straight through along the coast. Highway 3 gets congested, so it doesn't lose much time for you. The coastline is breathtaking, and this in itself is worth it. Once you get to Loiza, you head back to Highway 3 a happy tourist.

Get some great snacks!

by BergsFinest

When traveling to arguably the nicest beach in all of Puerto Rico, Playa Luquillo, you must stop at the kioscos. There are about 50 little food places to grab a bite to eat, local style. They all serve mostly the same things, like empanadas or bacalaitos. Don't be afraid to stop and try these delicious and unhealthy :-) food. It is inexpensive and great comfort food. Mmmmm.

Experience the Desolate Side of The Rainforest

by pabertra

The majority of visitors that visit El Yunque go through the entrance on the North side of the park, because that is where all the attractions are, but I recommend visiting the rarely visited South Side of the rainforest, where you may a catch a glimpse of the rare Puerto Rican Parrot and actually feel like you are the first person in the world to trod your path. The North side is nice as well, but their are a lot of people there and not as much wildlife.

Stay in El Yunque

by Natalllya

I stayed with my friend's family in EL Yunque at their Casa del Campo. WOW!The air, sounds and sights were incredible. The forest is just incredible. We stayed there for the weekend, you can see San Juan at night when it lights up. The song of the El Coqui lulled us to sleep every night (bring warmer clothes, it drops to about 60 F at night). It rains abour every 10 minutes or so there, be careful not to wear something that wrecks easily. We put on our bathing suits, grabbed botlles of water and water proof cameras and ventured deep into the forest. We hiked for an hour until we found the Rio Grande. Although the Rio was very cold, we jumped in without hasitation. Despite the rain, it does get very hot in the forest. It feels like its untouched by human hand.If you can, find a place to stay over night in El Yunque. Reasearch and see if anyone can rent out their Casa for a night or two....

take a drive along the coast

by Natalllya

We took a drive from San Juan to Fajardo one day. It was amazing!!! The scenery is beautiful. We wore out bathing suits underneath our clothes and when we got too hot, we would pull over and jump in the water.Take advantage of all the little bars and vendors along the shoreline. Stop and take in the scenery while you have a Medalla with a snack of Arepa, Bocadilla, Aso Pao or Mofongo. Try a Tiburon hamburger if you're into different foods. These vendors often sell fun stuff that you can take back as souvenirs. Make sure to bring a camera, you will find plenty of things to take pictures of along the way.
