  • This is a tropical island, so warm clothes are the ticket. I try to take as little as possible and items that I can mix and match.

2 pair of slacks usually one black and one white
1 black jacket to dress up the slacks or for casual dinning)
3 dresses, usually 1 black dress and the other two can be floral or solid cotton or linen which can go from day to night
    1 pair of Capri's
3 skirts or shorts which can be worn either during the day or into the early evening
2 white t-shirts or tank tops
    3 casual/dress shirts
1 pair of flip-flops for the beach
1 walking shoes for daytime touring
    2 pairs sandals
    2 bathing suits and 2 cover-ups
    one week’s worth of undergarments
2-3 pajamas or oversized t-shirts for sleeping
4 spare pairs of contact lenses
    contact lens solution
    spare glasses
    extra pair of sunglasses
blow dryer (never leave home without it)
    travel iron
    cosmetics in a travel case
my favorite shampoo and conditioner in travel sizes
hand and body lotion travel size
Tylenol, allergy medication and any other medication I am taking at the time
Hair accessories, brush, hats or caps
2 cameras, plenty of film and extra batteries for the camera
Guide books, itineraries, maps, an extra ATM card for withdrawal from savings if my regular card fails, 2 credit cards, $500 in cash for just in case of emergency
Extra travel bag to put all my purchases in.

I usually where something that can go from any weather (if it is winter in NY, then I wear a pair of jeans, walking shoes, t-shirt with a sweather on tope and my jacket). I also carry my tooth brush (no morning breath here), something to read, glasses, contact case and travel solution, Tylenol (I usually get headaches during long flights).

  • Make sure to bring a beach bag so you don't have to lug around your beach accessories by hand.

Of course bring a bathing suit & suntan lotion. Bring or buy an umbrella, because it rains a lot in Puerto Rico. One minute it is sunny and the next it is raining.

You can buy most everything you need if you are staying in San Juan, but if you are in the country, you might need to bring the necessities from home or drive a distance to purchase them.

If you can, pack small gifts that you might be able to share with locals, room service, etc that have been nice to you. Because of the poverty in Puerto Rico, many people are very thankful for this kind of gesture.

  • Pack light! A back pack will do.

Women: For some reason I feel compelled to wear dresses in Puerto Rico. Maybe it's because they're so much cooler than pants & shorts. Bring at least a couple of casual dresses or sarongs.

Sunglasses & sandals are a must.

    Sunblock, eardrops & sinus medicine.

From my own personal experience, take light clothing if travelling during the summer months such as shorts, cotten shirts and definately sandles.

You can find practically everything in regards to toiletries and medical supplies on the island, but things are a bit expensive so depending on how long you are going to be there, bring your supplies...

ANY CAMERA! THE SITES ARE GORGEOUS!!

If you have a chance, go visit the museums instead of the clubs and learn about the Puerto Rican culture, you will leave with a better appreciation of the island and its wonderful people!

Take a suitcase with room to bring back presents.

Bring a lot of bathing suits and shorts and tees. But also bring some nice clothes to go out at night.

    Lots of sunscreen!!

Bring a lot of film. There is a ton of stuff to take pictures of. It is so beautiful. Be careful of getting sand in the camera.

  • Don't come with heavy luggage because you just need to be comfortable...unless you are going to stay in a five star hotel :-)

Most of the time you should be wearing sport and light clothes. Here temperature is humid so you will be sweating a little bit...but don't worry...you will also be feeling the breeze, so that's a relief!
You must bring sun block lotion so you can protect your skin from the sun, and sunglasses. A cap or a hat is also desirable but is not absolutely necessary.

Public rest rooms are available for everybody. You don't have to pay to use them. Is clever if you are always with some napkins in your pocket because sometimes you will not find bathroom tissue in the rest rooms.
About medical supplies...you don't have to worry about it because here you can find with no kind of problems, pharmacy, doctors, hospitals...medicine here is good :-)

As you can see by this map of Old San Juan, the sprawling grounds of the Castillo take up a huge portion of the northwest area. The streets on the north end are where all the fun bars are, the ones frequented by locals. The mid-section has restaurants and some tourist sites and the south side has the docks and the more expensive hotels...
