El Morro is an amazing fort facing the water in Old San Juan, Some parts of the Fort date back from the 1500s.
This fort protects San Juan bay. It is now a historic site run by the National Park Service. If you plan to visit only one site in old San Juan, this should be it.
Other colonial powers such as the English and the Dutch tried to storm the walls of El Morro with a frontal attack. They were all beaten back by the Spanish garrison.
