Puerto Rico has its own unique breed of horses, the Paso Fino horse, a beautiful, naturally-gaited horse whose exact origins are uncertain. Some Spanish authorities feel that the horse is a descendent of the Berber, the Andalusian and the extinct Spanish Jennet. What is known is that in 1510, Captain Martin de Salazar brought some horses under the orders of Puerto Rico's first governor, Don Juan Ponce de León. They come from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Columbia and Venezuela as the original countries. The Puerto Rican Paso Fino is the most well known and has been developed as a show horse with a great deal of style. Gaited horses come in many varieties, but none surpass the quality and smoothness of gait experienced with the Paso Fino breed. The Paso Fino exhibits this quality from birth, with foals only hours old performing the perfect four beat rhythm the breed is noted for. Paso Fino horses come in all sizes, shapes and colors. The Paso Fino became a horse that carried itself with much pride, or "brios" and the unique short strided, rapid footfall of the classic Fino or Fino Fino became prized in their native lands. Today The Paso Fino's are used in all equine disciplines and are unequaled when it comes to the luxurious ride that they produce.
If you'd like to experience the wonderful smooth ride of the Paso Fino Horse, I'd recommend the following company: TRAVEL SERVICES, INCORPORATED P.O. Palomino and Palominitos by pabertra I got this tip from a dive instructor that lived in Puerto Rico for many years and thought I would pass it along. The best snorkeling and scuba diving in Puerto Rico is on a small island off the coast called Palomino Island. You can access this island by taking a ferry from the Wyndham El Conquistador hotel. Not many people are aware of this service, so it will make for a unique experience and fabulous diving! Leave a Comment Theme: Scuba DivingAddress: Wyndham El Conquistador Hotel

Lovely Isla Verde Beach by Hexepatty Swimming... The water temperature was perfect. My guess is that it was 84 degrees Farenheit. The perfect temperature. And there weren't that many waves, so it was really nice do laps. Mr Bigg didn't swim, and I hate swimming alone. (Someone larger than me should swim by my side to look like better Shark Bait!) But I did swim regardless.
