Corozal Garden which maybe doesn't look so inviting but it's an absolutely wrong impression!!! Ended here as Le Café Kela on the sea front was still closed and would have been till 11.00 but the hunger big: the owner is terribly friendly and you have to try their fried jacks which are typical fritters of Belize you can get instead of bread.
Then if you need a bathroom you get the key of a very basic one without washbasin but... returning that key you are invitated, if you want, to wash your hands in a basin filled of fresh water...
Our resort was called...
Our resort was called InterClubs Fun Royal. We had an all inclusive package that included 3 restaurants in the resort. The food to our surprise was very good! A large variety of everything. One rainy nite we decided to go out of the resort for dinner. We were told that the Lobster Inn was the place to go. It on top of this mile high, narrow mountian (it seemed like in the middle of nowhere). We were one of 2 groups there eating. The specialty being Lobster prepared many different ways. So we ordered 2 lb lobsters in garlic, butter sauce. They brought out these 2 HUGE lobsters which were spilt open w/ an excellent butter, garlic sauce mixed in to the chopped up lobster pieces. The meal and service was excellent even thou it was pricey.
Very good service from the staff.
Favorite Dish: Lobster, Lobster, Lobster....

Central America is a land that I consideer specially good to eat with native people: discover cuisine from the 'same kitchen' and next to the 'chef'. That could be easier that you think sometimes... so you only have to ask, and see...
Favorite Dish: My problem is that I love all kind of food... I'm hungry always ;-D Yeah!
Despite all the warnings my...
Despite all the warnings my favorite restaurants are all those tasty road-side and market eateries throughout Central America. Ooohhhh Yeah, I had my fair share of bathroom terror, but, it is bound to happen eventually! In a culture so full of flavor, there is no better way to experience local cuisine first hand and up close. Your insurance is the fact that most are'open-air' and there are many to choose from. Feel free to take a look around and decide for yourself whether or not conditions are exceptable! Did I mention that they're soooo cheap?!
Eat what you want, pay at the end.
Favorite Dish: 'Tacos Michoacana' de Mexico; Conch fritters from Belize; Fresh flour and corn tortillas from Guatamala; Rich & flavourful creams from Honduras and Northern Nicaragua; Fried plantains from Nicaragua; And the ever so famous Arroz y Frijoles de Costa Rica.
La Totuga Pizza and Bakery: 2 for 1 Breakfast in San Juan
I walked past La Totuga Pizza and Bakery (La Tortuga Pizzería y Panadería) one morning looking for breakfast. At first I thought it was a corner shop or beer store. When I walked past again I looked inside and saw some great looking food. I decided that it looked too good to pass up again. I ordered the Fritos o Revueltos con Jamon y Tostadas. Scrambled eggs with ham, vegetables and full of flavour. And I also had a nice cold (local) Medalla beer. Almost heaven. My meal was a little on the small side, but it costs a lot less than $5, so I ordered another one! My 2 breakfast cost me less than one at many of the nearby restaurants. And all served with a smile.
La Totuga does breakfast, lunch and diner every day. They also have a takeaway menu and a fresh bakery if you are looking for sweet pastries. La Totuga also bakes fresh bread every morning for you to take home. The pizzas they make also look very tasty. They have a specials board that changes every day. This is a great budget option where you don’t have to sacrifice good taste to save some money. My favourite offer is what they call ‘2 for 1 Beer Happy Hour’. On Sundays ‘Happy Hour’ is all day! Get in there!

Cafe Impala: Cafe Impala
The Cafe Impala is a great place to hang out to people watch while in Mérida. While their food is just basic cafetería food, they have phenomenal coffee and desserts. It's just so relaxing to go there at night to grab a sidewalk table and kick back!
Favorite Dish: café con leche

I think it's called Captain's Cove. It's not favorite because of the cuisine. I was engaged there on my second trip to Cancun in 1993. It has a great view of the sunset and eat on the deck if you can. The best food was probably at the Hard Rock Cafe and authentic Mexican in the downtown area. Although I would recommend Bactrim cause you WILL get Montozuma's Revenge!
Lauribmw's Restaurant Tip
Many of the restaurants are along the ocean on decks. It is a very romantic feel. You must remember that island time is extremely slow. No one is in a hurry, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery!
Favorite Dish: You have to have an island favorite drink. It is called a Monkey LaLa. It is similar to a mudslide, but more liquor in it.
Lots of little places that...
Lots of little places that serve these sandwich like 'tacos' . They are everywhere. They have all the major resturant chains. They have a chicken place (chain) called 'Camperos' they are everywhere. Similar to KFC but much much better. Public resturants and bathrooms are sooo clean you won't believe it. They put the US to shame. Service everywhere is great and eating at McDonalds is like eating at a 5 star resturant.
Pricing is in Colones, and overall it costs about the same US to eat at Camperos for example would be about 4.00 US for a meal with a drink.
Favorite Dish: The chicken at Camperos and those little tacos. I can't remember what they were called but stands are everywhere.

I really enjoyed Le Bistro. Fine french dining. But the local bakeries with the fresh bread and cheese is oh so yummy. Also, take a trip to Shirly Heights where you will find Aunt Patsy offering some delightful local cuisine.
the apertifs and lovely atmosphere.

Some of the best food in San Jose, Costa Rica was from a small Chinese restaurant behind the hospital. All the medical staff seem to eat there. Don't know the name of it, hope it is still there.
Cheap and a real nice change from rice & beans.
