Cycling in the North

by InfiniteTravel

St. Lucia has some hidden gems which can't easily be reached without a car (and hiring a car on St Lucia is neither cheap nor for the faint hearted). One of the best ways to get around the areas in the Rodney Bay area is by bike which allows you to get to some great spots. Pidgeon island is only a short distance away from the Reduit beech area (10-20mins). A short traverse of the island gets you to the amazing beach at Cas en Bas (30mins) which has a super little beach bar with the best creole BBQ chicken we had on the island. Other secluded beaches are also within easy reach. The routes are generally on roads which, although potholed in places are easily negotiable. There are some hills but none too arduous although low gears and some exertion is necessary. The bikes can be rented at a very reasonable price from a guy called Mark (aka The Bike Man) (who will also throw in a helmut,...

Action Adventure Divers

This is a simple scuba diving outfit located right withing Soufriere which is why I chose this place, I could walk to it. I paid US$ 85 for two dives, all equipment and the marine park fee. Both the divemaster and boatmaster were friendly enough. I was the only person diving (besides the divemaster) so the dives weren't rush and basically went at my own pace. They offer a variety of PADI courses here if you want to do one while you are done here. I found the dive equipment to be quite used and limited but was able to get the job done. The boat was a wooden boat with and may be hard for some people to get into from the water.

Caribbean kitesurf hotspot

At the very southeast end of St.Lucia you'll find Anse de Sables. One of the most vast beaches of the island and with just the right Atlantic trade winds to make this an ideal spot for wind- and kitesurfing. Right at the beach is Club Mistral (for the wind- and kitesurf equipment and lessons) and nextdoor The Reef Beach Cafe (for drinks, food and accomodation).

Try out some water sports

Rendezvous Resort has a ski boat and seasoned instructors for wakeboarding, water skiing, innertubing, etc. Wakeboarding looks really difficult to learn, but very cool once you begin to get the hang of it. The resort will provide all the gear you need, including the life jacket. All you need is your body and a bathing suit (naked sunbathing is illegal on the island).
