SVG's nightlife is on the low key side and is pretty much confined to the hotels, but there are several exceptions:
The Aquatic Club along Villa Beach on St. Vincent - just across the channel from Young Island - is a lot of fun on Saturday night. Loud, boisterous, and the penultimate party place for Vincentians. If you are on Young Island on Saturday night you may as well go over - because you'll be hearing it as if you were there anyway!
Also worth going to is the Attic in Kingstown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Karaoke, which is popular in SVG, is the highlight here.
On Mustique Island, Basil's Bar is the spot. Frankly, it is a little overpriced, but when the party gets rolling, it can be fun. Plus, the rich and famous show up here. When I was there, Mick Jagger, Tommy Hilfinger and Keanau Reeves showed up. The Wednesday night barbeque is usually the big event of the week, although there is live music on Monday nights.
On Bequia, the Frangiapani Hotel has a one night a week 'jump-up' that is not to be missed, and each of the other islands usually has some function during the course of the week. Also note that Canouan's Carenage Bay Resort has a casino, and on St. Vincent, there is the small and somewhat remote, but nevertheless fun, Emerald Valley Hotel Casino.
That said, as already noted, the hotels are the principle center of entertainment throughout SVG.
For the Aquatic Club and the Attic on St. Vincent, the fun is how much fun the Vincentians are having. They do not stop dancing. Period! Once the party starts - at about 11:30 pm - they keep moving until 3:00 a.m. or so. (Young Island guests beware!!) As for Basils on Mustique, the parade of rich and famous is the star attraction. On Bequia, the Frangiapani 'jump-up' will offer you some of the best people watching you'll ever want - it's like seeing the whole world in microcosm - in a very friendly and informal atmosphere.
All the places in SVG are informal, but men are expected to wear long pants and collared shirts to dinner. Similarly, ladies should not wear pants to dinner. Sometimes Basils will make an exception, especially if there is a theme night. 'Sarong' night, for example. On Young Island, they shuttle everyone over to Fort Duvernette, a lookout for the British many moons ago for a party including a steel band saturday nights. Awesome.
