Rio Food: meat soup...
Favorite Dish: I got the meat soup listed on the blackboard of the menu: a rich soup with lots of meat, various vegetables included the breadfruit and that tuber with the dark brown peel, the green banana - which is not sweet and frequent in dishes here - and those kinds of gnocchi which I had helped Carlos (the wonderful St. Vincentian I knew) to make with flour, salt and coconut milk.
a note: the fresh squeezed mouby - a brown soft drink - is much bitter than the one you find bottled...
The price was 25 EC$ (=10 US$) for soup, mauby and water for two people.
In the pic Mami herlself who has a stall among the ones around the bus stop, in one of those smaller lanes where probably I wouldn't have dared to enter even if I wished to but I was brought there at the name of Carlos, a St. Vincentian, when I said to him I liked something local and after a lot of "all finished, sold out" in the outer ring of the stalls.
I asked if she had something to eat and with a silent nodding she washed her hands in a basin, then disappeared behind her counter for a while... she came out with a dish of chicken, lovely spiced, green salad, tomato, that tuber so common here, rice.
To drink you choose a beer or a soft drink from a coolbox.
All this for 8 EC$ (3.2 US$) each
