North Bimini Things to Do

  • Relax

Alice Town has a small museum which is interesting. There are some restaurnants and a lot of bars. You can take the water taxi to South Bimini and look for the Fountain of Youth that is supposed to be over there. You can walk down to the point where there is a cemetery. You can buy Bimini bread and coconut candy or T-shirts at the Straw...

  • Easy diving

Only 2 things to do on Bimini. Fish or Dive. We dove. We used Keefe's for diving. Good operation with great people. First day there was about 18 people diving, but for the remainder of the week there was only 6 of us. Nice to have the ocean to ourselves not to mention all the room on the boat. We were propositioned by several locals at the dock for...

North Bimini Restaurants

  • The Anchorage at Bimini Blue Water

Restaurant sits on the top of a the rise looking out over the Gulf Stream. There is a bar with a TV and also tables. Service is attentive, and thoughtful. I had a wonderful lobster special and Bob had the catch of the day. The bread was hot and they gave us a pitcher of iced tea. There was lemon cake for desert.

  • Something Totally Different

Unlike any other place I have ever been. Dirt floors with inside seating for about 6 and outside for about 12. Just because the seating is limited don't be fooled into thinking it won't be crowded. Standing room only is not uncommon. This has to be the smallest establishment I have ever been in and yet so much fun. Our first nite in Bimini we ate...

  • Cracked Conch a specialty

You can find out what the specials by calling on the VHF radio. The little building which is set back from the street has a TV, stools and tables. My son-in-law thinks that CJs has the best cracked conch of anywhere. Note - cracked conch is apparently deep fried. I don't know why they called it cracked. My husband has become violently allergic to...

  • Breakfast and Lunch

Not air conditioned, and only open until about 2 pm. We usually come here right after we get in to Bimini in the morning of the first day. Bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich is mostly bacon.

  • North end of town

Lots of locals. Has somewhat disconnected service - lady that took our order didn't bring it, and we asked someone else, and then both of them brought it so we had two. I had calamari and Bob had snapper. The food was good

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In addition to the open air market, there are several little shops on Bimini. Their merchandise is variable. Usually they carry soft drinks and snacks, some other food and some clothing.

What to buy: I went to get postcards. I went to several shops, and found the following ones.

    The Beach (a good one)
The docks with fishing boats (good)
    The Compleat Angler (good)

    The bank (yes really)
    The Baptist church (uninspiring)
    Another church (ditto)
The cement ship that is disintegrating off the island (VERY ugly)

North Bimini What to Pack

  • Island Life

Bug Repellent is a must if you care to watch the sun set or rise. Benedryl Gel is great for bug bites and even jelly fish stings. The best cure for jelly fish stings or scratches from fire coral is a salve of meat tenderizor and water. Disposable underwater camera to capture the multitude of sealife, including friendly dolphins. Don't miss the...

  • What Have You Come To Do?

If coming by boat (which I recommend if you have an appropriate boat) you don't have to pack. Except for provisioning the boat of course and filling up with water and fuel before you leave. If you come by air, pack light. If you come on a dive boat, I'm sure they'll tell you what to bring. If you are diving or snorkeling, pack bathing suits, dive...

  • Seacrest Marina

We usually come in and stay here as it has enough water at the dock for us. Initially we came here because it was the closest to immigration, and having been up all night I didn't want to go far. I think that if I was going this year, I'd go to the next marina up - Blue Water because that has a pool, fuel, and also a good restaurant. Dockage is 90...

  • Snorkelng from the beach

Just walk off the beach and swim in the clear water. Mask, snorkel and fins. You can get along with just the mask or a sight bucket I guess. I don't know where to get the equipment if you don't bring it with you unless you rent it from Bill and Claudia.

  • Bimini in need of refurbishing

The people are very nice and helpful. This was our first trip there. We went for the weekend. This island has great potential but it is currently very run down. So many places are abandoned. The beaches are spectacular until you look up and notice that everyone dumps garbage on them. We saw bicycles, air conditioners , etc. dumped. The other end of...
