Allan & Dee Ready for a Night Out

You will never run out of places to go, things to see, and activities to enjoy on the Grand Bahama Island. Nightlife is active, and you have many selections from which to choose.

Our resort always offered entertainment each night. The staff put on musicals, did comic sketches, and provided opportunities for the audience to join in.

There are many nightclubs on the Island with live music; we especially enjoyed the local talent as well as the steeldrum performances.

Also available are the Casinos, which were elegant when we were there. No doubt, that might have changed over the years.

Some people enjoy going out to eat a leisurely meal and listening to good music.

I also enjoyed a night walk on the beach, sitting at the bar drinking "Yellow Birds" and listening to music while talking to new-found friends.

Whatever you enjoy, you will no doubt find it here on the Grand Bahama Island.

Dress Code: You can see from the photograph, that night activities are not too formal; however, if you decide to visit the Casinos, you need to dress more formally than somewhere such as Vegas.

Depending on the time of year you visit, you need to know that summers are quite humid, even at night. Winters (we vacationed at Christmas/New Years), you might need a jacket or a sweater. Regardless, beach attire is not appropriate.

Daily and Nightly Participation: Participate in All the Fun

Allan Performing on Stage at Club Fortuna

As the photograph indicates, people participate in the fun and become so uninhibited. My husband Allan is usually so reserved, but while we were at the Fortuna Beach Club, he was anything but shy. He joined in with all the activities that were offered; thus, he had a blast. And so did I just watching him "blossom".

In this photo, he is the one with the hat. They were on stage after a performance by the staff. The staff welcomed audience members to join in with some fun game that included the ball that they are passing. The music was blasting, the audience was clapping to the beat, and the uninhibited guests were "letting it all hang out!"

Dress Code: As you can see from the picture, it is quite casual. Some people even wore beach attire. It was quite warm that night, so most people wore shorts

Music on the Beach

The nightlife options in the town far outweigh its size. There is an ample supply of nightclubs where you can get a taste of the local sounds, several discos where you can dance almost 'til dawn, a casino with virtually non-stop action, and the square at Port Lucaya Marketplace. ...A buffet and Junkanoo performance is also preformed at the Sheraton. Be sure to check out the web page link below. There are several Disco places around.

Dress Code: Some places differ so look on their web pages or call. Numbers are on the web page link below.

Port Lucaya: Nightlife? Wrong Island
Winch profile photo

3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Winch 43 reviews

Nightlife at the International Bazaar? No way. Downtown Freeport? Possibly dangerous. In the hinterlands? Mostly non-existent.

There's always the casinos and the hotel piano bars, but about the only place to be at night is Lucaya. At the end of Seahorse Road you'll find the Port Lucaya Marketplace. This (usually) bustling harborfront boardwalk features numerous outdoor bars, some pretty good restaurants, and live concerts at Count Basie Square. You'll even find tour boats offering romantic sunset and moonlight cruises.

The other side of the road is dominated by the huge Our Lucaya resort, including the Prop Club, an indoor/outdoor bar on the beach which features either live music or a DJ. The resort also has a half-dozen other bars and restaurants and welcomes everyone whether you are staying there or not.

Dress Code: Tropical casual is the general rule in Lucaya, though evening wear would not look out of place in the hotel restaurants. As always, swimsuits and excessively revealing clothing is frowned upon by the locals, though you probably have free-latitude on the Our Lucaya resort property.

Bahama Mama Boose Cruise: Steak & lobster dinner & Bahama Mama booze cruise

We booked this which is a first for us, not to bad, the steak & lobster was ok, Bahama Mama's were very strong, couldn't drink them so I bought beers for 2 dollars. After dinner they ask every one to come down to the lower deck where the entertainment begins which is dancing, drinking then a linbo contest which this one dec hand was really good at. All in all it was pretty fun and lasted about 3 1/2 hours. Dinner was a nice quiet run through the inter coastal waters, then when dinner was done we went out off the coast for a little while, there was a full moon out and a nice clear night. We are not real drinkers so if you are this will be a blast. All the deckhands get people up dancing and having fun.

Bonfire on the beach: Bonfire New Years Eve on the beach!

We booked a Bonfire on the beach New Years Eve with H Forbes, a large bus came and picked us up and took us to the location. The driver was too funny for words because he was busting on this group that was very loud and drinking already. It was a good time, pretty good food and plenty to drink if you wanted. They lit the fire just after dark and the party broke up about 8:30pm then they took us back. It was fun meeting new people and seeing another part of the island. I think it was about $35 per person, it was worth it.

Lucaya: Very limited nightlife 1 Casino

The Lucaya area has a few bars outside of hotels but not many. There is also a casino at Lucaya beside the Westin. Those are pertty much your only options for nightlife on the island if you want to party go to Nassau instead.

All Bars: Way expencive to get drunk

VolsUT 250 reviews

It is expencive to get drunk on the island $10 for a Jagerbomb $9 for a gin & tonic! At those rates if you are a light weight you are looking at $90 to get drunk and $40 just to have some fun. Better bring your own and then go out

What nightlife
gbajramo profile photo
gbajramo 2 reviews

Unless you consider some live Carribean music that ends at 11pm, there is very little nightlife in Freeport/Lucaya. On Saturday night (October) almost everything closes at 10 or 11pm and that's end of it. The Lucaya market has a couple bars and live performance but it's geared towards older crowd. If you are under 30, you won't find a nightspot on this island. Coming from Fort Lauderdale where you go out at 1am and stay till 5am, I was very bored. Returned to Westin at 12am and went to the pool.
