by tpangelinan We had a layover in Miami so we had to switch planes for this smaller one but it wasn't too bad because it was a short flight. It only takes about 50 minutes or so to get to Grand Bahama Island from Miami but your ready to get off the plane at that point! You'll land at the Grand Bahama International Airport, in Freeport, it's rather small but pretty easy to get through. We would have not even gone if we had to take this little plane the whole way from ATL, very tight small seats. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

H Forbes Charter Service by tpangelinan We setup many excursions before we went so we could get the most out of this trip and to enjoy what the island had to offer. Several of those excursions were set through H Forbes Charter Service, all in all they did pretty good, the buses and taxis were clean, the drivers were very friendly and made you feel relaxed. They were on time except for one, we an excursion we setup for new years eve and it was cancelled due to low head count but they didn't let us know and we sat waiting for an hour until we gave up. Other than that the other 3 or 4 times it was very nice. Keep in mind that not all ecursions with other companies has transportation to and from the event so make sure if it is included or not. This company seems to include transportation for all thing we booked and all nice new buses. Leave a Comment

by tpangelinan Rent a convertible and drive around the island, for only a few dollars a day you can save these poor cars from wasting away, won't you donate today! I know it cost a little grip but it's well worth it, the freedom you get with having a car can not be discribed ecept 'I'M FREE TO DO WHAT I WANT ANY OLD TIME". Taking a taxi can just as expensive if not more so why not have your own! We heard a couple talking about they paid $65 to get to Port Lucaya and $35 back, our rental was $70 a day! We were on our Wedding-moon so I kept it the whole week. Maybe next time we'll get a convertible Jeep and get real adventurous! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by tpangelinan If you are looking for a fun day of exploring, try renting a scooter and check out the island. This is a fun way to see the real island and all it's beauty with out having to move on to the next site because your under some tours time frame. They run about $35 for 4 hours to $50 for the day and must put down a $300 deposit. You must be at least 18 to ride due to insurance reasons. Bring cash with you because you must bring the scooter back with as much gas as you got it with. Now remember you must stay to the LEFT on this island. Leave a Comment Theme: Motorcycle

Bob at the bus stop by grandmaR Jitney buses (actually vans) provide low cost transportation around the island and are a good way to get a little exposure to the Bahamian culture. It costs about $1 to ride them and is a whole lot cheaper than taxis. You stand at the bus stop (remember they drive on the left), and the bus will stop. You can go into Freeport to the Winn Dixie or to the International Marketplace. If you go to the Winn Dixie n Freeport, there is a terminal in front of the PO to get a ride back to Lucaya. Called "Jitney Buses", these buses are not buses, nor are they "Jitney" (whatever that is..) they are vans. BUT it is the best transportation around. It is only $1 a person, but they have to make other stops. At the end of the day the workers use these to get back home and they usually STINK of body odor. Theme: Bus

Joey's Taxi by grkboiler If entering Grand Bahama on a cruise ship at Freeport, you can get to Lucaya on a taxi at the harbour. It costs $5 per person. Taxis are actually vans and you will share a ride with others - the taxis will not leave until they are virtually full. The drivers are talkative and will give you a nice talk about facts and history of Freeport, Lucaya, and Grand Bahama Island. If you get Joey as your driver, make sure you ask to see his picture in the tourist brochure for Grand Bahama Island. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home
