Pompey Museum by grkboiler The Pompey Museum of Slavery and Emancipation is a very interesting museum featuring the history of slavery and the slave trade. It details the slave trade circle from London to West Africa to the Americas. Artifacts from the only known sunken slave ship, the Henrietta Marie, are on display. The British ship sank in 1700 off the coast of Key West after unloading its cargo and slaves in Jamaica. It was discovered in 1972 and later excavated. The museum is housed in the historic Vendue House, which was a marketplace where slaves were one of the commodities sold. The museum is open daily except Thursday. Hours are 9:30am - 4:30pm (Sunday 12pm - 4pm). Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, $2 for students, and $1 for children under 12. This is a cool place( A pirate museum) for at least one visit. If your not taking any children you might not like it to good. We had our 12 y/o son at the time and he loved it. It's perfect for young boys. They learn about the pirates and walk through a pirate like ship. The people who work there were really nice. I thought it was a bit over priced though. Phone: (242) 356 3759Directions: The museum is very conveniently located for cruise ship visitors and hotel guests in the heart of Nassau. Situated within a short distance of the Straw Market on Bay Street.Website: http://www.pirates-of-nassau.com/

Pirates Museum by XanderDone Fun for the family is available at the Pirates Museum. Fully equipped with your pirate impersonators who come and talk with you in the middle of the streets, it's no wonder this is a local hit. It has its own popular pub and (of course) a gift shop of many cool treasures. Guaranteed a nod or two from your little son who may be into the whole "pirates" thing. Hey, I had fun, and I'm not into pirates! You learn about the history of the pirates in the Bahamas, and it's got some great information and artifacts. Leave a Comment

Small place, but some interesting exhibits. And it has air-conditioning, good for a half-hour break after walking the city. Leave a Comment

by saw50st8 A cute museum with pirate stuff all over the place. It takes about 30 minutes to go through unless you feel like reading every plaque in the place. Its a fun place, but a little overpriced.

Pirate Museum, Nassau, Bahamas by cruisingbug Must see or tourist trap? I can't decide. The Pirate Museum, located a little way from the Straw Market, does have some authentic pirate artifacts, as well as good information as you go through the 10 rooms. You can peek inside this first room (see picture) to see if you want to pay for the $12 tour (we got $2 with a coupon from the cruise ship map - and a free rum punch too). Leave a Comment

The Bahamas Historical Society Museum by call_me_rhia The Bahamas Historical Society Museum is located in a pink building where you can learn all about the history of the islands from pre-Columbus times to the present. I really liked that Lucayan, Taino, and Arawak artefacts. Note however that the museum is really tiny so don't expect too much from it. Admission is 1 dollar and it is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., whereas on Saturday it closes earlier, at midday. In the summer months (July and August) it is closed permanently. Leave a Comment
