Because Liz didn't feel well on the ride over and it was a bit of a walk back to the landing point we decided to just get in a shared taxi heading back to the piers. Everyone had told us ahead of time that this trip should be $6 each and that is all it should be. So we got in along with four or five others and each paid our $6 upon arrival. Was nice to see a different way by taking a real taxi instead of the water taxi both ways and I recommend highly how we did it. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Nassau taxi rates by pieter_jan_v The Nassau Taxi's is a story on its own. If you come by cruise ship expect a bunch of locals waiting for you to try to get you into their cab or private car. Licenced drivers are almost undistincable from unofficial ones. There are local fixed rates. Don't go into private cars with no clear taxi markings and always ask for a bill at the end. Don't let yourself get scammed by taxi drivers. The Frommers guide says all cabs should have meters. However none of the metered cabs were running their meters. And let me clarify what a cab is in the Bahamas. Most of them were old Toyota or Mitsubishi mini-vans. Some were old Suburbans or Mercedes, but they all have Taxi written on the front of the vehicle. There is a chart that says how much a cab should be from Point A to Point B. For example $12 from Cable Beach to Downtown, or $15 from the airport to Cable Beach. We were not aware of this chart and ended up paying $20 for our ride from the airport to the Wyndham on Cable Beach. Be sure to veryfy your fee befire getting in the cab. Our family just got back from a trip to Nassau. We had a wonderful time. There are many sites to see, but getting there canbe a problem. And who to trust to get you there and back safely? Our ship docked at Festival Place. A Google search will show you were on the Island it is located. We were approached immediately by several people offering different services. We chose to take a tour around town and over the bridge to Atlantis Resort. The taxi(really a van), was a/c'd and in pleasant shape. The price was very reasonable. Our driver's name is Dan "The Man" Adderely, and what a gem he turned out to be. His knowledge of the cities history as well as many other things about Nassau was quite impressive. We toured through the city and made stops at Fort Fincastle, the Queen's Staircase, Atlantis Resort Hotel, Cable Beach, and best of all, we took a detour down below the bridge where a small village exists where many of the locals go to hang out and eat. He had some childhood friends(who own one of the restaurants) show us how they catch and clean Conch chells, served us the local beer, made us a fresh Conch salad and other treats. We sat for a while and talked with the locals and really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know how they live. Our choice to ride in a taxi turned out for the best as we made it safely through the city streets and back to the dock. Some folks did not fair as well. We saw a few accidents involving what looked to be tourists. And no wonder, the city streets are narrow, lined with parked cars, confusing to follow, and shared by large delivery trucks. I can only imagine what nightmare awaits those who rented a car and wrecked it. I highly recommend taking a taxi. I also highly recommend our driver who I am confident will be as pleasurable for you. We did not get into any accidnets are see any, but these guys that drive these taxis and or shuttles, let me just say this, they drove like they were racing against someone. They all have this laid back vibe until it comes to driving. Whoa! You will witness it......... Theme: Bus

If on Paradise Island, you'll probably take a cab to Nassau...be sure you only use regulated cabs...ask at your hotel desk.... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Sept 2007 I was quoted a "zone fare" of $30 from the airport to the Atlantis Hotel. The meter was not turned on. That's only a $3 increase compared to the chart posted here from 2003/4. So although at the time, I wasn't sure, I think the price is current, and not inflated. I will poll others and edit, comment, or add to this topic later. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
