The Atlantis Resort is the ultimate tourist trap on paradise Island... ugly, huge, overpriced and very tacky. I have not stayed there, so it might even be that the accommodation is great, but the look of it is truly disgraceful.
Moreover it's a really BIG tourist trap... one that doesn't fit in (scenically) with the beauty of the island. Here are some mind-boggling numbers:
Royal Towers - 1201 rooms
Coral Towers - 656 rooms
Beach Tower - 423 rooms
The cove - 600 rooms
The reef - 497 rooms
The harbourside resort - 392 villas
Fun Alternatives: Go to Cove beach in front of the Beach tower, for a great beach with calm waters.
It was nice...it was different than the Ocean Club...but it wasn't worth $180!!! From time you arrive, to the clubhouse (or should I say starter's shack) to the carts, you get a nice warm municipal golf course feel.
In defense of the course, it had it's moments, it was fun. Wide open hacker's course for the most part; outside of a couple holes on the back and the island hole in my photos. I do think this is a much older course in need of a remodel on the club house and course in general.
We played it AFTER the Ocean Club and this place is barely on par with Muni courses here in the Northeast!
Unique Suggestions: Don't expect much. If you want a different experience just to say you played it; that's about all you will get. You pay for the extra cab ride from Atlantis, if your staying there, and by the time you do the math; you could have replayed the Ocean Club again.
Fun Alternatives: Replay the Ocean Club!!
Not worth it! The snorkeling was awful. I didnt see one fish, the life jackets didnt fit, and the food wasnt very good. Also drinking on a boat in the hot sun isnt a good combo!
Unique Suggestions: Drink water not booze in the hot sun!
Atlantis has devised a way to make you spend more money while out at the pool and beach areas. Almost every bar and snack stand will only take either room cards to charge to or credit cards. This allows people to just charge, charge, charge and not realize that $7 drinks and $8 sandwiches can add up to $500+ in a week's time. Only two of the more than fifteen bar/food areas takes cash.
Unique Suggestions: My wife and I split a sandwich (they are big enough) and didn't drink much by the pool areas. We did buy bottled water at a local store across from Atlantis for $2.25 each and bring them with us. The same bottled water at the resort was $4.75. We did see many people pull out bottles of liquor and and pop and make a drink at their chairs. Liquor is very inexpensive at the stores and too expensive at Atlantis.
Fun Alternatives: For a fun change, walk over to the Comfort Suites Hotel across the street from the Altantis Casino. If you enter from the lobby area, go to the pool bar. The bartenders are social, fun and make strong drinks. Prices are cheaper and they have 2 TVs for additional entertainment. Many locals hang out their because of prices and better interaction with guests and bartenders

Of course even paradise has it's cons!!! Getting your hair braided is pretty expensive-up to 2$ a braid and in my opinion a tourist trap but hey, alot of girls love it and if it gets you more in the caribbean spirit go for it!!!
My friend got his $800 gucci watch stolen while we were jetskiing and our stuff was "supposed" to be being watched by one of the attendants. First time anything like this happened to me in the bahamas but just watch your personal belongings closely and when possible leave it with someone from your group.
The souviniers are beautiful-try not to go crazy the way we did!
