If you are planing on taking excursions tours, don't buy through the cruise ship. When the ship docked, there are private local tour guides waiting on shore to take you places. You can negotiate a good price and also the tour guide will tailor to your interests as well.

I only had a couple of days in the Bahamas and was really excited to go on the Pirate Tour. I really love pirate lore (in my local area I can recommend the Wydah exhibit in Provincetown, Cape Cod about the exploration of this sunken pirate ship) so was very exhibited to take the pirate tour. What a rip off. Normally guided city tours are excellent, but I could easily have done this on foot. The worst thing was that there were 'independent' guides at every tour stop, so you had to slip them a buck or two each even though you'd already paid the tour company something like $30 for a few hours. The pirate museum itself is overpriced, but it has good captioning and is fun in a kitschy sort of way.
