    Getting Here....

    by monica71 Written Feb 4, 2012

We flew US Airways from Chicago to Freeport (with a stop over in Charlotte). Other airlines that fly to the island are: American Eagle, Baer Air, Bahamasair, Continental Connection, Delta/Comair, Sky Bahamas, Vision Airlines, Western Air

    Bahama Air

Never ever under any circumstances fly Bahama Air. They are owned by the government and they'll get you there when they get you there, not when you are scheduled to be there. Our flight there was delayed by 9 hours and the return was delayed 4 hours.

Fly from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport

by evebeals Updated Jul 23, 2004

Fly to Fort Lauderdale and then fly from there to Freeport. If you like cruises you can also take a cruise ship, but my husband and I were less than impressed on our first trip, so when we went the second time (for our honeymoon!) we decided to fly straight into Freeport from Fort Lauderdale rather than taking a cruise.
If you're just visiting Port Lucaya, you can walk around to see the beach, the shops, etc. There are tour buses to the botanical gardens and outlying areas. Otherwise, your best bet is to rent a car or make plans for a cab, since public transportation is limited.

Easy access to The Islands Of The Bahamas is a key reason for our huge popularity as a winter holiday and year-round vacation destination. Just a short hop by jet, a pleasing day by cruise ship, or a brief but memorable voyage by private or charter boat, The Islands Of The Bahamas can be reached quickly either by air or by sea.

To the islands by air and sea, including flight schedules and tour operators.

Between islands also by air and sea. You'll find some fun, inter-island travel ideas here.

I like to use Fort Lauderdale Executive airport for customs and renting the survival gear. The custom folks have been great and I have no trouble.
Stop in Nassau for customs. They may not be very wordy but they will help out. Get your stamp and then you can fly anywhere in the bahamas. I can give you additional details. The Caribean flying guide is very helpful.

The only way to go to the Bahams from Europe is by airplane beside going with a cruise-ship. There are about 700 island in the Bahamas, which you can also only reach by boat or plane.

First Trip to Nassau was on American Trans Air. It was an older 727 but nice ride. It was a one day trip from Buffalo New York.
