On the road from Arima to Blanchisseuse, we happend to spot a butterfly from the road. Now if you can imagine spotting a single butterfly from a moving car you will get the idea of the size. I got out of the car and took the picture you see here with the telephoto lens. When I tried to get closer to take a good picture the butterfly decided that I was too big to let me get any closer and flew off before I could get that closeup. Believe me this was a real eye opener, never seen such an irridescent color of blue before, it glowed in the daytime.
If you take a close look you will see Zohara standing at the base of this stand of bamboo. I have heard statistics that this type can grow at the rate of 10 centimeters (4") PER DAY, yes I said per day.
This was taken just off the road from Arima to Blanchiseeuse and when we told Joan and Matthew (our hosts at the B&B), they told us that in the jungle forest they are even bigger, wow.
