Compte de Loppinot Historical Complex or Count Lopinot's House (the area is now known as Lopinot rather than Loppinot) is located at the top of the Lopinot Valley in East Trinidad. The area, famous for its Spanish roots, was so named for Charles Joseph, Compte de Loppinot, a general of the French army during the revolution. Today, the Lopinot mansion, located in the centre of what was once the Count's sprawling estate, has been transformed into a museum.
It has beautiful grounds around the estate and a river nearby for some great birdwatching.

Take a drive through some of the towns and see the hussle and bustle of everyday life.
Watch out for the very narrow streets as you pass by. Trinidad's population is a blend of Indians, Africans, and Europeans. A mix that has produced some very good looking people. There is also some very interesting architecture in the older communities.

The first place on our list of places we wanted to see was the Asa Wright Nature Center.
The center is a former cocoa and coffee plantation that has been turned into a 200-acre nature reserve. It is set in gorgeous mountain scenery at about 1200 feet.
More than 100 bird species inhabit the area and many can be see from the observation area in the lodge.
Birdwatching tours along the trails are given twice daily. There are hotel rooms so you can spend the night.

If you would like to get a great view of the Coroni Plain and Piarco Savannah, take a drive up to the top of Mt.St.Benedict
It is 800 feet above sea level so you can get a nice panoramic view from there.
The monastery and chapel are there as well as other buildings.
There is also a guesthouse where visitors can stay over night.
