Across the bay from Speyside is a small island called Little Tobago. This island is one of the most important seabird sanctuaries in the Caribbean. It is where the red-billed Tropicbirds come every spring to build nests and have their young. This is quite a sight to see.
You may also see Brown Boobies, Audubon Shearwaters, Sooty Terns, and many other species of birds.
There are several trails and you can go without a guide but we always found the guides are very knowledgeable and know the best place to go for sightings.
A forest ranger fills bamboo water troughs everyday and these are used by the many land birds that you will see on the island.
You get to the island by boat from Speyside. Arrangements can be made at the Blue Waters Inn or check with the local fishermen.

Speyside has much to offer the birdwatcher. The trees and bushes are full of birds.
There are many tiny hummingbirds flying from flower to flower.
My husband snapped this picture of a copper-rumped hummingbird in the bushes at the Blue Waters Inn.
Grab your bins and your camera and go for a walk around the grounds.
