Snorkeling was a free activity at our resort. Snorkel equipment was kept at the Water Sports Desk. We were able to give our room number and sign out the equipment. Snorkel areas were designated by red buoys in the water. There were both man made and natural reefs. Our first day of snorkeling we didn't see much in the water. A few small silver fish drifted by. Our second day snorkeling had a larger variety of fish and sandollars. It was a fun experiebce and Liz's first time snorkeling.

Sailing on a Hobie Kat is a perk of staying at our resort. After a short lesson (30 minutes and it's mandatory) we were given the okay to take it out on our own. I have sailed before so this wasn't a problem for me getting the hang of it. The resort allows you to have the Hobie Kat for an hour at a time (longer if there are Kats still on the beach). They suggest you stay along the shore and within sit of the beach but several people were venturing out too far. One day we observed a hobie Kat get overturned from the person going to fast in strong winds. The rescue boat was dispatched to pick up the guests and set the boat upright. I don't think those guests will be going out on the Hobie Kat aain after that.
We had a nice day with good winds and stuck to the rules. We were fortunate to have almost three hours on the Kat since there were still several Kats on the shore.

Sea Kayaking was one of the water sports included at our resort. It is hard work getting started and pulling away from shore with the tide fighting against you. After several attempts we finally made it out for a nice ride. The water was pretty calm once we got out but the occasional wave made Liz laugh hysterically to the point I thought we might tip over. After I started feeling a little sunburn coming on we headed back to shore.
It was a nice experience to paddle out in the water and see the island from the sea.

So if you're not staying at a big resort with their own equipt there is only one place to rent windsurfing boards or hobies on Grace Bay: from Mike who runs Windsurfing Provo/Abuv-it-All. He has a little kiosk on the beach at the Ocean Club East, just tell the front desk you are going to see him and they will open the gate for you.
FYI: he is not open on Tue/Wed
If you want a lesson or want to rent windsurfin gear contact him when you first get in so he will hold the gear for you.
Hobies are a super fun way to spend some time, and you will get wet but it feels great!

Dive Provo were the friendliest company with the friendliest people we found on Provo! Their office is in Ports of Call, just stop in and ask about snorkeling trips or diving if you want to go scuba. My boyfriend did a discover dive (his third one, cause he's not yet certified) and had a great time. We also went with them on their snorkel trip to West Caicos which was really a lot of fun!
Also, their shop has some of the coolest Provo t-shirts i found down there, as well as snorkel/dive gear, underwater cameras, etc.

Check out Big Blue for kayaking excursions in Provo. I was only able to go with them on the eastern kayaking trip, which take syou to Mangrove Cay and Iguana Cay. They also have another kayak trip to the western areas but i missed it!
They pick you up, and you go to the marina on the far eastern tip of Provo, fill out some paperwork, quick intro to kayaking, and you're off!
Definitely easy for beginners, although i've kayaked a lot and it was still fun. Always nice to see the world from a kayak. You cross some tidal flats where you can see baby lemon and nurse sharks, rays, and turtles swimming around. You cross a deep channel and stop off at Iguana Cay for a quick walk around and learn some cool stuff about the iguanas and the native plants. Also you go into the mangroves, which are always so beautiful.
Bring loads of sunscreen, hat, rash guard if you burn easily. This is an afternoon trip and you will be in the sun for 3 hours.
Really fun!

Providenciales is located on a prime migratory path of the humpback whales. If you are out on the boats fishing or diving, you might just see one. I was lucky enough to see one with a group of divers while we still had all our gear on and we got within feet of a ~30ft male.
