The temptation when you visit a new place is always to explore, and falling in to this trap we decided to hire a car for the day and explore Providenciales = Big Mistake.
The highlight of staying on Provo is Grace Bay, which is where most the hotels are. So why go looking for something else you might ask ? Beats me actually !
Driving around the island you will see nothing better, and even if you do, you won't be able to get anywhere near it due to construction work. The island itself is not very picturesque, and due to all the development there is dust everywhere and hardly anywhere where you can park and get access to the beaches.

If you want to go to the Conch farm and perhaps go horse riding or something then maybe it's worth it, but we were left wishing we hadn't bothered and had spent the day on the beach instead like most sane people had.

We also got a really crappy car whose key wouldn't come out of the ignition, which didn't help matters, but that's another story.

If you want to have a look around then feel free, but take it from me, all the real attractions are either on the beach or in the sea, so why go looking for something that ain't there.
If you are going to hire a car, book it in advance.
We didn't, and paid the price by getting something that looked like it had been pulled out of the sea by a fishing boat.

Top Tip = To see these islands from a different perspective, take a flight to one of the neighbouring islands, chill out for the day, and then catch the plane back again.
We flew from North Caicos to Providenciales with Air Turks and Caicos for $40.00 each, and the views were fantastic.

This isn't really a tourist trap, and it gives me no pleasure in passing on this info, but I think it's only fair to do so.
JoJo the Dolphin is used in alot of tourist literature and was a dolphin who reportedly preferred humans to his own pod, and could be seen swimming with boats and snorkellers around Grace Bay. However, sadly since the hurricanes of last year, JoJo has not been seen, and one can only assume the worst.
Also, many companies on Provo used to run whale watching trips and still advertise them, but the tourist board will no longer give licences to tour operators to run such trips due to the lack of whales in the Provo area.
If whale watching is your thing, you need to go to one of the more Eastern islands.

Don't worry, there are still plenty of things to swim with.
