It's been described as a 'winnebago in a car park', but Duffy's is more like a deluxe winnebago on the edge of a car park. A shack, with Caribbean and Hawaii decor. Very popular with locals and tourists alike, Dress is casual. They have tables in the shack, which also houses a small dance floor, and outdoors. I had a chicken caesar salad which was very good, but most people come here for the drinks. You get to keep the monkey, parrot, shark, whatever, ceramic cup that your drink comes in (depends what you have). Try the flamming 'Love Shack Volcano'. Or 'The Shark Tank' - a blue 64 oz concoction of 5 different rums and tropical liquors - for which you get the theme tune to 'Jaws' played, the lights flashed and the smoke machine cranked whilst they bring you your drinks. You also get a lai and a sticker that says 'I got laid at Duffy's Love Shack'. Great for the young and old, but I've been told that it gets really busy at night, because young people on the island come here. So if you're an older couple, have kids, or aren't into crowded places, come for dinner, but leave before 9pm and you'll miss the crowds.

Not really American food, but sandwiches with chips, inc. the ;flying fish' sandwich. Really, if you make it to Jost van Dyke, a British Virgin Island, you'll make it to Foxy's. I went there as part of a day's sailing trip. No shoes needed, as most people are coming to Foxy's via dingy from their boat. Extremely relaxed place, with picnic style tables. Foxy, the owner, will even play his guitar and tell jokes while you eat. Food is very good. I had the 'flying fish' sandwich, but I forget what type of fish it was. Great though. Waitress was very helpful and friendly. Price was $8 for a sandwich. There's also a shop next door, where you can buy postcards, clothing and even cigars.

The only authentic Irish pub in the USVI. They serve tradtional Irish food, as well as American burgers, etc. Overlooks the red Hook harbour and is located in a kind of very small outdoors mall, with a ice-cream place (the other Cold Stone Creamery'), other restaurants, and some shops. Duffy's is across the road. Open 7am-2am! Average prices for the island.

Me at Craig and Sally's by Sophie1980 I've put this restaurant under seafood, but they also serve pasta, lamb, veal, salads. The menu changes everyday. I ate here tonight (April 3rd '03) and had yellow tailed snapper, with spinach linguine, lobster, calamare, and a very good sauce that's name I forget. Very nice atmosphere. Dress is smart/casual. Mixture of locals and tourists. Located in Frenchtown, the building is small, but the inside is nicely decorated in a colonial sort of fashion. Waiters are overly helpful, but what you'd expect in an expensive restaurant such as this. Price: the bill came to $450 for 7 people, including wine and tip. Not a family restaurant from what I could tell.

The front of Sib's, March 25th 2003 by Sophie1980 I've put it under American, but really it's just a great restaurant. Everything from salads (I had a Greek salad), to fish and pasta. I've been here loads just to walk around (is a 5 min. walk from where I'm staying) and it has a great garden, which is lit up with fairy lights at night, with a stream. The owner, Ted, is really friendly although I haven't met any of the staff as I've only had take out. Although it's 'On the Mountain Top', there are no views of Charlotte Amalie, or the beaches here, but the surroundings are nice in themselves. There's a bar next to the restaurant.

Although it's tempting to eat somewhere that is familiar to you in both surrounding and food, I would try and avoid all the fast food restaurants in Charlotte Amalie. There's everything from Pizza Hut to McDonalds here, but they offer nothing that you can't get at home. Instead, try a local seafood restaurant, which will offer fresh fish. An obvious tip but one I wanted to share. Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Charlotte AmalieDirections: Main town.

by zChris There are some excellent produce stands around the islands, mainly in areas which the locals frequent. This fascinating banana stand was a prime example, in the back streets of Cruz Bay, St. John. by lucretia319 This is actually a outdoor cart where Shela cooks food from home and transports it to the cart for sale during the day. Seating is outdoors and shared with fellow islanders and taxi drivers on break playing cards.

by lucretia319 This is Uncle Joe standing next to his beloved barbeque grill. This is it...he and his grill are basically situated in the middle of the street. The smoke from the grill and aroma of BBQ meat fills the streets of downtown St. John. The locals love this place and we did too!

The great thing about this restaurant is that you can literally step off the beach and onto this covered dining terrace. They do ask you to wear a beach cover up though! Whether on the beach or terrace, other islands are part of the view and oh, what a view it is. It's almost too much for the eyes and brain to absorb...the beach, the aquamarine waters, parasails and St. John Island in the distance! At first glance, $8.50 for a pita club sandwhich and $9 for a plate of nachos seemed par for the course for St. Thomas. It was a delicious and pleasant surprise that when the food arrived, each order was more than enough for 2 people sharing! Order a frozen fruit smoothie for dessert!
The triple-decker pita club was piled high with avocado, chicken, tomato and greens on tasty, soft pita. Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Saffire Beach Resort
