Woody's: Best Bar Burgers

by vanderlust

Woody's is a great place to chill after a day at the beach or from a long trip to the island. Open late, cold beer, can be mild or wild depending on the day/ night/season. My favorite place for a burger and a cold beer after a long day on planes and ferries. We usually arrive on island, meet our villa greeter, drop our luggage off at the villa, return to Cruz Bay to shop for groceries at the Starfish Market, then drop by Woody's for a burger and beer.

Skinny Legs: Great people (and hamburgers)

by islamonroe

Skinny's always has a burger special and they are always great- the blue cheese burger was my favorite. The bar is all open air and includes a horseshoe pit and dart area for entertainment. The locals and wait staff are very friendly and it is a great spot to watch the local news or football game.Local donkeys are usually hanging around and there are a few shops (and an internet bar) connected to the main bar if you feel like shopping. They have a great website with lots of local information.Over all it's a pretty OK place. Our favorite was the thick, rich chili- served with, chips, pickles, jalipenos, onions and cheese!washed down with a cold 2$ Presidente.

The Fish Trap Restaurant: Seafood and tropical drinks!

by allenk_007

I happened upon the Fish Trap by accident while wandering around Cruz Bay. I happened by several more times on other trips to the island, quite on purpose. The covered patio setting and a tropical drink or two in the open air, with good food makes this a very nice dining experience whether for a couple or a group. The Pavilion: The Pavilion at Maho Bay

by pabertra

The Pavilion doesn't have the best food on the island, however it does have a lot of options and a great view. Every night the restaurant has around 5 entrees written on a blackboard, one of which is always vegetarian. Along with your entree you get access to the salad bar, rice, coleslaw, and a dinner roll. If you are not terribly hungry you can just get the salad bar. This place is located at the Maho Bay campground so I ended up eating there out of convenience. I really recommend trying any of their seafood dishes. The shrimp they make is out of this world. I also tried the baked chicken, which was just average. I prefer to just stick to the salad bar, but the shrimp was EXCELLENT!

The Balcony: Fresh Seafood With A View

by pabertra

Went to this place on a recommendation and was able to try both the Roast Beef of Tenderloin and the Caribbean Bouillabaisse. The service here was nothing fantastic as like most places on the island the servers are college age adults who have just come to work short term so they can stay on the islands. The atmosphere was great with a spectacular waterfront location and view of stunning Cruz Bay. Remember you are by the ocean and your best bet is seafood, so I wasn't that surprised by the lackluster Roast Beef of Tenderloin, but I cannot rave enough about the amazing Caribbean Bouillabaisse! The Caribbean Bouillabaisse was EXCELLENT! It is mussels, clams, shrimp, and the fish of the day, which was mahi mahi in a lovely tomato based broth. This is definitely a dish worth returning for and the BEST meal I had in all the islands. The other seafood entrees looked excellent as well if...

Voyages: Go for jazz night

by islandtaryn

Voyages seems oddly out of place. The tourist center of the island is Cruz Bay, located on the opposite side of the island. Maybe the more remote setting is what prompted the owners to choose this location. Whatever the reason, Voyages is a great excuse to drive across St. John. The view from the dining area is spectacular and the food good. There are regular live music performances, especially when tourist season is at it's peak... jazz night is my favorite. So... have a bite, sip some wine, listen to the local talent, and maybe make some new friends. One word of caution, the mosquitoes can be brutal. Ask your server for repellant if necessary and make sure your table has citronella candles . It's all been good.
