If I didn't to live here and had one place only to go to for a cool drink, where would I go? FUNGI's. It's on the East End and right on the water. There's no way in heck you are going to find this place without a cabbie taking you there. It's just too tucked away. The food is great, the place is RIGHT on the water and the drinks are great. It won't break your pocket either. Trust me. It's on the EAST END and easy to get to. If you are downtown...it's along way and you may want to intigrate this with a trip to COKI BEACH (nearby).
Try the local food. The Roti, the Snapper and of course, The Fungi!
Most people go to Magen's Bay...
Most people go to Magen's Bay when they visit and the snorkeling is OK on the west end of the beach if you get out far enough. We have found better snorkeling at Cowpet Bay at the end near the Anchorage condos. In early August I even saw a school of squid about 20 ft from shore. Lots of spiny sea urchins and my daughter also saw a ray. My wife tells me that Secret Harbor has a number of varieties of coral and at least one Moray Eel. Both are off road 332 near Red Hook.
St. Thomas Synagogue
visit the St. Thomas Synagogue, first built in 1796, and then rebuilt in 1833. The floor is covered with sand symbolizing the flight of the Jews from Egypt through the desert.
It is the second oldest synagogu oin the western hemisphere and the oldest under the American flag.
There is an underwater...
There is an underwater snorkeling route to follow. Markers show you the direction and talk about types of fish and plant life to look for.
Boat trip to St. John's...
Boat trip to St. John's Island. This is where I first had the opportunity to snorkel. We were at Trunk Bay, which at one time was listed as one of the top 10 beaches. Beautiful water and sand.
