Jen's Deli: Jen's Deli--- a quick bite at a reasonable price

by visurferguy Written Mar 31, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Jen's Deli is a tiny place across from the park in downtown Charlotte Amalie. If you just need a quick sandwich on the go or want a fast meal, stop by Jen's. Locally run by Jen, you'll usually catch her right behind the line rocking out the food to local businesses. This is where all the goverment employees and people that work in the shops downtown grab there food. It's very small, so you might want to grab and go...maybe get your meal and go sit on the pier or out in the park and enjoy the St Thomas sunshine.

Favorite Dish: I like Jen's Italian sub, but she also has some fresh baked goodies and a very decent fresh sheet on a blackboard over the cash register. Check her out and tell her "Eric sent you"!

Iggy's Beach Bar: Iggy's---A St Thomas Favorite

by visurferguy Written Apr 1, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    View from a Hammock

This is mostly America food with a Caribbean twist. Very reasonable prices and the food is very good. This is not elegant, but a simple beach bar with decent food. A tough find on St Thomas. The view of Bolongo Bay is awesome and just wondering around or lying in a hammock with a rum drink will make your day.
No reservations needed, wear your flip flops and shorts--add a Hawaiian shirt if you want everyone to know you are a tourist--- and you are set.

Favorite Dish: My favorite and my parents favorite dish here is thier simple Jerk Chicken Sandwich. Make sure you get the Mango Chutney on the side!

Havana Blue: Little Havana in St Thomas

    by twilk76 Written Jul 12, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Havana Blue is located on Morning Star Beach adjacent to the Marriott Hotel. The restaurant touts its theme as a cuban/asian fusion. The huge terrace overlooks the ocean below. The view of the ocean, accented by giant candles and white linen hanging from the ceiling, is amazing. The food is top among the restaurants on the island. Prices are relatively high, ranging from 25 to 40 dollars.

Favorite Dish: Ive tried a stuffed chicken breast and a filet mignon with wasabi mashed potatoes, both were excellent.

Randy's Bistro: Randy's Bistro--A hip swanky wine bar!

by visurferguy Written Mar 31, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I put wine bar on here, because thats Randy's focus. But in reality, he is a Wine Bar, Bistro and Deli all rolled into one! It's a little out of the way, and mostly a local hangout, but his food is terrific and worth the trip. The prices might seem a little high for some tourists, but he really is very compeitive when you compare him to other nice places to go out on the island. Lunch is casual and fun and the sandwiches and entrees are outstanding. If you are out for a nice dinner and don't want to decimate your wallet, this is the place to go.
You're going to spend some money, but there is real value here to this experience.

Favorite Dish: Randy's Bistro salad is not to be missed. His homemade dressing is something you can only find at his place. Don't forget other mouth watering specialties like "Tropical Salmon" or "Gorgonzola Filet".

Indigo: INDIGO at Megans Point Resort

by visurferguy Written Apr 1, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Relatively new and rapidly becoming successful is INDIGO at Megans Point Resort. This Chef is a very talented individual who does some pretty cool twists with his cooking. They have great burgers and sandwiches for lunch and dinner is more of a swanky affair with a more upscale menu. Very reasonable for this type of atmosphere and quality of food.

Favorite Dish: Ahi Spring Rolls are excellent. They aren't on the lunch menu, but I usually get them when I smooth talk my server and the kitchen a bit. The Sandwiches are all gourmet ingredients infused in unique ways. A dinner entree I onced enjoyed was "Lollypop Shrimp". Shrimp rolled in crushed lifesavers and seasoned in a way that made it work so well. Service is outside and poolside.

Burrito Bay Deli: Burrito Bay---great value, great food

by visurferguy Written Apr 1, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place has an outstanding diverse menu and best of all it's probably the best value for lunch on St Thomas. To give you an example, my mother ate here 12 times on her 4 week stay here recently. I frequent this place as well do many of my local friends here on island. If you are in Red Hook area, you won't find a better value for your money.

Favorite Dish: Mexican styled burritos, fish tacos, great sandwiches---you'll have a hard time deciding what you want. Most dishes are done with a local flair. Jerk Chicken Wrap is a good standard, but once you go you won't need my advice.
Most items are under $10 which is rare and amazing on St Thomas unless you hit McDonalds or Wendy's which I really do not recommend down here!

The Old Mill: Cool place with lots of History

by visurferguy Written May 5, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Old Mill

This place was once an old sugar mill up on the hill just minutes away from downtown. It's tough for a person probably to find it on thier own, therefore I recommend calling a cab to get you there.

Recently remodeled this "complex" houses a sportsbar with a restaurant, a nightclub open late for dancing on the weekends and much much more!

Favorite Dish: The ambience is so cool and the prices won't break your wallet. The building itself is a historical landmark and for my money, it's much more impressive then Blackbeards or even Bluebeards castles.

A full courtyard bar with an open air setting and a jammin nightspot--you can't go wrong here!

The place is huge, you really don't need reservations. It's relaxed, casual, well-priced and fun!

Jack's Wings, Tillet Gardens: Jack's---Great Wings

by visurferguy Written Apr 1, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place is tucked away and it's pretty much all locals, but if you want to untuck your shirt and have a good relaxed time, go to Jack's. The wings are outstanding and the beer and cocktails are always resasonably priced. It's not near any hotels or resorts however and is in the center of the island in an area called TUTU. Which, is near the mall for all you tourists who have lots of time and want to save money.

Favorite Dish: Jack's has lots of wings, but I prefer the "Country Sweet-Hot". Most of my friends like the "Anchor steam" which is good too. At least visit, they had about 6-8 sauces you can pick from. get your wings "naked" and then order several sauces and you can mix and match. Certain nights have great live entertainment, so ask around and chekc the paper for what's going on there. They rarely ever charge a cover and the place is open air.

Greenhouse: Greenhouse--once great, now in decline

by visurferguy Updated May 5, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Greenhouse Restaurant St Thomas

This place used to be the place to go, now you can file it under tourist trap. The food is standard fare, but there are many better places to go for the same $$$. The drinks are overpriced and the night time entertainment here has now fallen to the wayside. The owner and management of this place, really just doesn't care anymore. Try my other listings if you want to have a much better experience. AVOID IT.

Favorite Dish: There are better places to spend your money. Don't let the convient location fool you. Check my other reviews for some much better places to visit.

  • Hands down the best restaurant...

by magnbay Written Oct 5, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Hands down the best restaurant on the island that we have found so far is Agave at Point Pleasant resort. The view is spectacular, the service is excellent, and the food is superb. Watching the full moon rise over the Drake passage will melt the most hardened cynic.

Favorite Dish: Key Lime Pie. The entrees are excellent, but the pie is to die for.

    Amalia Cafe: Rum Punch Time!

by garridogal Written Dec 10, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Noon somewhere
    3 more images

We walked into the most beautiful little side street, saw a bar, and made a B line to quench our thirst. We only had a quick drink to rest our feet and enjoy the gorgeous setting. If I ever go back to St. Thomas I will definitely re-visit this lovely side street and would love to try the restaurant portion of this cafe.

Favorite Dish: Amalia Cafe's rum punch hit the spot. But one was enough, at least before lunch. If we'd had more we might not have made it back to the ship!

Hotel 1829: Want to Taste 150 Year-Old Grand Marnier?

by BIW Written Apr 23, 2004

The Hotel 1829 restaurant is on Government Hill. It serves classic dishes and is expensive- but well worth it if you want a special night out. The food is spectacular as is the service. They had both 100 year-old and 150 year-old Grand Marnier which I tried. The smoothness of it was unbelievable! I havent been there for a few years so I would check out the latest menu if you decide to go. Definately look into it.
