We took a fun taxi into town in a multi-rowed vehicle that was open on the sides and covered with a canape. Only in perpetually warm weather could you have such a vehicle.
As you can see, we thought it was pretty fun...
You can get a cab from just about everywhere. You'll see these big hollowed out pick trucks called "Safari Cabs" all over the island. Prices vary and so do the services. Some offer tours around the island and others offer trips to the cruise ships back and forth. Locals joke about how much they hear "back to the ship?" on a regular basis. Find one that takes you where you want to go and hop on. Simple as that.
Common tours are Northside runs to Mountain Top and Megans Bay. If it were me and I had oe day, I'd either go to Megans Bay or Coki Beach. I personally prefer Coki Beach.

I suppose the only way to arrive in Charlotte Amalie is by cruise boat, as do thousands of people every day (us included!)
The basic means of transportation are taxis. Fares are goverment regulated. All fares quoted are per person, per destination.
