Hop on for a great ride and even better view by cjg1, 4 more photos The St. Thomas Skyride carries you in a gondola 700 ft above Charlotte AMalie. The ride itself is only seven minutes in duration and drops you off at Paradise Point. Paradise Point has a nature trail and some incredible views of St. Thomas. The ride is $19 a person but very worth it. Leave a Comment

Walk around the Capital, Charlotte Amalie. It can be very croded since this is a major area for tourists shopping and dining. The shops are lovely and the buildings are rather quaint. The lovely water views as you walk the waterfront are definitely woth the trip as well as all the great shopping. Leave a Comment

Magen's Bay by GlobalMatt Magen's Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been on. I would rank it right up there with Orient Beach in St. Martin & Poip'u Beach in Kaua'i. The water is crystal clear and the beach is like walking on flour. Whenever we visit St. Thomas, we make it a point to stop here for some water and beach fun. Leave a Comment Directions: Ask and cab driver in Charlotte Amalie...they will give you a set price and take you straight there.

One thing I would HIGHLY recommend is taking a day trip to the British Virgin Islands. It costs about $120 person. There is a separate fee for your visa which you need since you are entering a new country. I believe you need to have a passport with you to go on this trip since once again you are traveling to another country. We took the day trip to Virgin Gorda and Normand Island with Limnos Tours. They are located at Red Hook. I believe the trip was from 8am to about 4pm. There are about 25-30 people per trip and the price includes a continental breakfast, buffet lunch and unlimited bar with beer and really good Rum Punch. At Virgin Gorda you get to visit the Baths with is a series of Huge Boulders that form these amazing caves into the ocean (see my review for Virgin Gorda for more info.). At Normand island you go snorkeling only, there is no "off boat" experience there except swimming with the fishies (literally of course!) which is really nice. By the time we had gotten to Normand Island to snorkle I was quite chilly and neither myself or my husband felt like swimming (the rum punch was too good...) so we decided to stay on the boat and the crew was very accomodating! They even gave us food to feed Barry the Barricuta!! The tour operators were really nice and the boat ride was very relaxing. I would recommend this trip to any one and everyone, as long as you don't get sea sick! Directions: The Tour company, Limnos, operates out of Red Hook, but there are plenty of operators on the island.

Ascending Government Hill between Kongens Gade and Store Tarne Gade is the historically known attraction, the "99 Steps". This steep stairway between the two streets built in the 1700's was constructed of multi-colored bricks by Danish engineers. The brick was previously used as ship's ballast by the Danes and now has a new life creating a picturesque climb with greenery on each side. Not for the faint of heart, but for the aerobically fit, the persistant visitor will be rewarded with great views of the city and the Charlotte Amalie harbor. HINT: count the number of steps--is it 99 or even more!?! Watch your step and take your camera! Descend the hill and head east to find the "Frederick Church Parsonage." One of the oldest houses on St. Thomas, the parsonage was built in 1725 and to this day retains its 18th century architecture, the only structure on the hill to do so. Leave a Comment Address: Government HillDirections: From Veterans Drive head north up Tolbad Gade and past Emmancipation Gardens Park on right and another park on left. Ascend steps and right on Kongens Gade. Steps will be on left.

Another activity we did was scuba dive at Coki Beach, also located on the eastern side of the island. This was our first time and was well worth it. I think we paid $50 per person for the hour class and 40 minute dive. I must warn you – unlike many dive schools that teach you the technique in a pool Coki Beach Dive Club teaches you in the shallow part of the ocean. This is a bit intimidating since we had never done this before. However, once we got it we had an awesome time! Our instructor was really nice and patient while we were trying to figure out everything and very helpful during the dive itself! Phone: 340-775-4220Directions: We are located at Coki Beach, Route 388 on the north-east end of the island, approximately 20 minutes from Havensight dock where the Cruise Ships arrive. Coki Beach is open to the public, at no charge.Website: http://www.cokidive.com/

Charlotte Amalie by GlobalMatt Here I am with downtown Charlotte Amalie in the far background. This is a great place to go if you want to cash in on some excellent liquor, electronics, perfumes/colognes, or jewelry deals....especially diamonds and tanzanite. Leave a Comment Directions: Not far from the main pier...downtown Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

There are some nice sites on the way up to the top of the mountain. It is a slight trek to get there, but the walk, rather than taxi or bus is best. The steps are called "99 steps' but probable more than that. They were built in late 1700's for quicker access down the mountain, or up, as the case may be. Near the top are three homes that can be toured, and view the way locals lived, and some still do. The names are Fredrick Church parsonage, Balckbeard's estate, and Haagensen house, that depict the times of living culture in the late 1700's to mid 1800's. Blackbeard grounds has a tower called Skytsborg built in 1678, used to scour the terrain for ships coming into harbor, or passing by for possible tresuare to take. Haagensen house is from 1820 circa and the furnishings depict that time. Skyline Drive is stop for the view. Jewelry is sold along the way be vendors, as well as drinks, etc.

Trunk Bay, St. John by ATXtraveler When visiting St. John, it would be a true shame to miss out on Trunk Bay. According to the Cruise ship personnel, this is the #2 ranked beach in all of the world. I would have to agree based on the beaches I have seen. There was plenty of shade for grandparents and the people blessed with light skin. The water was beautiful, however the snorkeling trail that was so highly touted was a little disappointing for me. I do not think if you are going only for snorkeling, that this would be your best location. We did enjoy the sail over there, where we had a very informative tour guide. Leave a Comment
