Magen's Bay by GlobalMatt Here I am enjoying the pristine Caribbean water at Magen's Bay. I could have stayed in all day...but I would have been a lobster. I don't tan well. You could probably figure that one out by looking at me....just check out the glaringly white guy in the water. :-) Leave a Comment

Megan's Bay by travelqueen7 It's worth going to Megans Beach to say that you have at least been to one of the top 10 beaches in the world (as said by National Geographic). The beach streches for several miles and has crystal clear water. But only 32 palm trees on the entire strech? (I counted them) Like I said I went to just say I've been there, but when I got there I wasn't to impressed overall, I found it to be just another beach. I did although have a very relaxing time floating on the water and ignoring everything around me. Leave a Comment

The fare is $16 @ and I don't know whether it was worth it, but it was something I wanted to do. There are 3 cars and they each take 8 people. They have a kind of bench that you can lean against but is too high and too narrow to sit. We were in the middle car, and it was very hot and also hard to take pictures from the middle one. They wouldn't let you walk up, but they would let you walk down. We saw the path below us. From the top, we could see not only Charlotte Amalie and French Town, but Water Island, Flamingo Bay and the airport. There was a bird show up at the top, and also you got a free drink. Bob climbed up to the top and took some pictures, but we didn't stay for the bird show nor did we get the drink. I got into the first car to go down without the guy helping as he was still helping people out at the top - the cars don't stop at the top or bottom so you have to get off while they are still moving. He ran over just as we were going off the edge because he wanted our tickets. He was a rasta - you can tell because they tie all their hair up in big cone shaped woolen caps. St. Thomas Skyride, operates on a bi-weekly schedule accomodating the cruise ship arrivals. The skyride is closed on non-ship days Leave a Comment

The beach at Megan's Bay, St. Thomas, USVI... by Cabana_Boy Naturally, hitting the beach is the thing to do whenever you're in the Caribbean and Megan's Bay is definitely one of the better beaches on St. Thomas....the inlet is well protected and offers a gentle sloping sandy bottom that provides shallow waters for wading and swimming...now if I just get my beer cooler to stay upright in the surf.... Once again, because we went in the off season when there weren't many ships in port, this is the time period when renovations take place and things aren't open as much. Fort Christian was undergoing some restoration while we were there, so I really didn't get good pictures because there are things in front of the buildings. It obviously wasn't open, so I didn't get to explore it like I had planned. Fort Christian was named after Denmark's King Christian V. It was constructed between 1666 and 1671 by Danish settlers. It is the oldest building still in use in the Virgin Islands. Directions: Sits near the waterfront on the east end of town, across from the Vendors' Plaza on Veterans Highway (Waterfront Drive).

We managed to get a few good shots from Mountain Top, even though it also was closed. The observation deck at Mountain Top is the highest point on the island at 1,547 feet. I am pretty sure the banana daiquiris they serve here are world famous. :-)

Yes, this is a huge tourist trap, but you have to do it! You can drive yourself up to Paradise Point, but I think you would miss out if you didn't take the tram. It's a modern day gondola. The ride to the top takes 7 minutes. You have incredible views of Charlotte Amalie and other islands on the ride up and when you get to the top. There are shops and restaurants at the top, and even a short nature trail. In my opinion, though, the reason to visit is the view from the observation deck. Phone: (340) 774-9809Directions: St. Thomas Skyride is located just minutes from the cruise ship dock, directly across the street from the Port of $ale Mall.Website: www.paradisepointtramway.com

Boat like the 2nd charter on a mooring at Red Hook by grandmaR, 4 more photos Sailing is one of the premier activities of the Virgin Islands. The winds are steady, the water is deep and the islands are close enough that you can get around with the chart on a placemat if you wanted to. Some people bareboat (usually starting in the BVI in Tortola), but if you have little or no sailing experience or just want to relax and let someone else do the work, it is better to charter a boat with a crew. Once you figure out the cost of the captain and provisioning, it is not much more expensive to do a crewed charter from the beginning and it is usually a better experience than chartering a bareboat and then getting a captain. A captain with his own boat will be more invested in giving you a wonderful time than a hired gun from the charter company may be. One of the advantages of chartering a boat is that you can move to the many wonderful locations in the Virgin Islands without packing and unpacking all the time or waiting for ferries. We chartered twice out of Red Hook (St. Thomas) with a crew - the same crew each time, but two diffeent boats (one his and one hers). And we liked the boats so well that we bought one. Glory of Christensted (picture five) is one that does crewed charters for couples or possibly a couple with children. It is a smaller version of our boat. If you want, he will teach you sailing. Info On Snorkel Tour by Waalewiener This tour was the Tour that we had signed up for but they announced in the morning that due to the large waves at the Beach of Trunk Bay the Snorkeling part was canceled. I will feature the alternate tour we had decided on (the same tour except no snorkeling) in my St Johns pages (coming soon). Leave a Comment
