Magen's Bay, one of world's most beautiful beaches

by Emile72

We visited St. Thomas on a cruise trip. Decided to spend some time at Magen's Bay. After reviews we had mixed opinion, yes, it must be a beautiful beach, but would it be overcrowded? Well, it IS a beautiful beach/bay. So wonderful, the water, the surrounding. And no, it is not that crowded. Obviously you won't be alone, but as everywhere, about 75% of the tourist stay in one place of the beach and it's a long stretch of beach, so if you walk a couple of minutes, you will find a nice and quiet spot. It is 4USD entrance PP. Taxi about 8USD pp.

rent a car and get a map from the hotel

by Nantesha

If you are comfy driving then it is worth getting a car. our hotel was far from the airport (the Wyndham sugar bay and resort) and we drove daily so it was worth it. If we were to take cabs everywhere, it would of cost 10-20 p/person from the hotel to town. We took two maps from the hotel and airport and used all the sites that tourists go to and went there on our own. If anything you can follow the tour buses, although slow waiting for everyone. We also took the barge for 40 dollars and went to St john's and drove all through the island too. It was fun. There is a fab coffee spot in the main town. I have the reciept somewhere and will write more

Coki Beach

by agapotravel

Coki Beach was my favorite beach on St. Thomas. When we arrived, there were tons of people. I was a little disappointed because I thought it would mean that the fish wouldn't be around. Once I got in the water and began snorkeling, my concerns about the fish quickly disappeared. They were everywhere! My parents gave me an underwater camera for Christmas last year. I absolutely love it. It's not fancy, but it's digital and takes pretty good pictures. My problem is that I try to make them perfect and usually by the time I clicked the button, the fish had moved. :-)The Coral World Underwater Observatory is built above the reef on this beach. We didn't visit Coral World, but I have heard good things about it.

Sugar Beach

by agapotravel

We ate dinner at the Agave Terrace. Before dinner, we walked a short nature trail to Sugar Beach. It was so peaceful in the evening. I honestly don't know what it is like during the day.It is part of the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, so I imagine it is quite crowded with guests during the day.

Brewers Beach

by agapotravel

This is a perfect beach for swimming and watching planes land. The airstrip juts right out into the water at this beach. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, you won't find it here. Planes land and take off every few minutes. It was neat to watch them. This beach appeared to be very popular with the locals. The snorkeling wasn't very good here.

Lindbergh Beach

by agapotravel

Lindbergh Beach isn't as well known as some of the other beaches on St. Thomas, but it is still worth a visit. The water is calm with a sandy bottom, so it's great for swimming or just relaxing in the water.

Sapphire Beach

by agapotravel

We stayed at Pavilions and Pools, and the closest beach was Sapphire Beach. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to get there. This beach gets very crowded during the daytime, but we visited later in the day, and it wasn't crowded at all.The water is calm here, and there are many amenities since it is connected to Sapphire Beach Resort.

Magens Bay

by agapotravel

Magens Bay is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is lovely, but it had more people and less opportunities for snorkeling than other beaches on St. Thomas. It was still great to visit this stunning white sand beach. The water is calm, so it is great for swimming. There are also a lot of amenities here. There is a charge of $1/vehicle and $3/adult to enter. There is a picture of birds in picture 4. These birds would nosedive into the water without any regard for swimmers or snorkelers. We witnessed them landing about 2 inches from a man's head that was snorkeling. I am sure it scared him. This was the first beach we visited on the islands, so we thought all of the beaches were going to have crazy birds like this. Thankfully, they didn't.

Drake's Seat

by agapotravel

Drake's Seat is a viewpoint where an actual stone bench sits. Legend has it that Sir Frances Drake used the spot as a lookout for Spanish ships approaching St. Thomas. It provides amazing views of Magens Bay.

Mountain Top

by agapotravel

We managed to get a few good shots from Mountain Top, even though it also was closed. The observation deck at Mountain Top is the highest point on the island at 1,547 feet.I am pretty sure the banana daiquiris they serve here are world famous. :-)
