I PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT THAT THE HIGH POINT OF ALBANIA WAS MT. JEZERCE, WHICH STANDS AT 8835 FEET (2693 METERS). HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT GOLEM KORAB (OR KOBILINO POLE) AT AN ELEVATION OF 2753 (OR 2764) METERS, WHICH ALBANIA SHARES WITH MACEDONIA, IS THE ACTUAL HIGHPOINT OF THE COUNTRY. HERE IS MENTION OF IT FROM A WEB PAGE DISCUSSING BORDER ISSUES: The border starts at the erupa mountain peak (2092 m) at border marker D24 that is a tripartite between Macedonia, Albania and Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. From there, the border goes across the mountain range Golema Korabska Vrata, then goes along the slopes of Korab and cuts through its highest peak- Kobilino Pole (2764 m). Then it goes southwards along the slopes from where it turns westwards, goes down to the village of Spas in the Debar Plain and comes to the river Crni Drim. The border goes along the river for about 12 km to the dam at Pilje Lake. From there it turns away from the river and climbs the Jablanica Mountain. It goes southwards along the highest slopes of this mountain, and, going over Afa San saddle and between the villages of Radolita and Lin, reaches the coast of Lake Ohrid. It goes across Lake Ohrid and west of the St. Naum monastery comes to the south coast of this lake. Then, it turns Eastwards and along the south slopes of the Galitica mountain, near the village of Konjsko and comes to the coast of Lake Prespa. From there, again it turns Southwards across Lake Prespa and ends in the lake itself south of the island Golem Grad and reaches the tripartite between Macedonia, Greece and Albania. The border with Macedonia was mostly marked in 1913, but there are a few locations which are still disputable.

Come and see! This wild mountainous landscape is just fascinating. It offers great opportunities for hiker or mountain bikers but you should be in good physical condition.

Gjirokastra is a picturesque historical town close to the Greek border. From the massive fortress on the hill there are spectacular views over the town and the surrounding countryside.
