This monument is not Skanderbeg grave and memorial, which is a little further and that we have not visited. However, this monument, which stands on Beselidhja square, at the cross road near Tirana bank and Hotel-Restaurant Uldedaj-Liss commemorates the day of 2 March 1444, when Skanderbeg gathered in Lezha an assembly with all the Albanian princes to unite against the Ottoman occupation. This meeting was the cradle of what was later named the Lezha League, recognizing Skanderbeg political and military authority. After this day, Skanderbeg led the battle of the whole Albania against the Ottoman invader for 25 years.

Though there is not in Lezha such an amazing building boom than in Durrësi, in Saranda and the whole south, there are a few very recent buildings, such as this one, standing in the city center. It is the local seat of Tirana bank.

As everywhere else in Albania, the front of the grey blocks of housing of the Enver Hoxa’s period have now been painted in various colors. I do not know if this is only a cosmetic improvement or if the apartments themselves have been renovated. I hope so! Anyway, the result is rather pleasant for the visitor.
