During our 1988 trip across Albania, we had an Albanian guide in second who was a forestry ingeneer. He had with him a superb flora 600 pages of Albania “Flora ekskursioniste e Shqiperise”. When we were back to Tiranë, I asked our French speaking Albanian guide to help me get a copy of it. We visited half a dozen bookshops. They all had shelves loaded with the works of Enver Hoxha, of Marx and Engels but the Flora was out of print. We finally found a book shop that had one copy of this marvelous flora that I use each time that in the Balkans, I have a plant that I cannot identify otherwise. Of course, I had to buy Fjalor Frengjisht-Shqip and Fjalor Shqip- Frengjisht (dictionaries) in order to be able to use it. Flora ekskursioniste e Shqiperise

Don't miss the markets: Shopping Albania

In Albania there are many oper air markets.Super Markets are not findable in this country.That doesn't matter! You will find everything you need on this markets.Especially fruits and vegetables are very fresh and vey good.If you smoke you will be happy about the cigarette prices! Not much money!

shopping at the local market is always great.it's colorful and you can buy food enough to stuff yourself for the rest of the day for very little money. food,drink and anything that the locals use in every day life.

Red T-Shirts

Not that it was really a nice T-Shirt, but the fact is that this red T-Shirt is the only one you can find in all Sarande! So I bough one as souvenir (there was not much choice). After some bargaining, it costed me 4 euros.

Street markets

For those who always go shopping in a supermarket: Don´t miss an Albanian street market. Its lively and interesting. And there is nothing you can not buy!

Stalls: Olive oil

You can buy bottles of olive oil from locals for a very good price. You will mainly find these near the coast of Saranda and Himare and Vlore from what i have seen. Olive oil not sure but cheap

Stalls on side of the road: Honey

You will find many stalls on the side of the road selling good quality honey, you will also see the bee hives are there too. Honey I think it was about £5 for a huge jar

Tirana shopping

In Tirana you will find some little shops dotted around that sell good quality shoe's....look out for them. shoe's shoe's shoe's about £35/40 for a good quality pair of italian leather shoe's

Napkins

These embrioded napkins were the other possible souvenir to find in the few (2) street vendors I saw in Sarande. Didn't buy any, as I didn't like the stuff, so I can't tell you the price...
