Albania on a Rental Car

by andreasss

Albania is one of the most beautiful places in the Balkans especially during the summer. We rented a 4x4 for about 60 Euro / Day from a place in downtown Tirana called NOSHI Rent A Car (that was the cheapest rate for a 4x4 by the way, average is around 100 euro / day) and went to all major cities in the Central and South Albania. The weather was magnificent and so was the drive. The roads were ok for one the poorest country in Europe, but very manageable on a 4x4. The Opel Antara suv we got was also excellent at off-road driving (in the beaches and mountains). Anyways we definitely recommend Albania as a fun and safe place. Being a foreigner definitely is a plus because the locals are extremely hospitable especially to Germans.

Taxi to and from Airport to Tirana or Durres

by mjbcoffee

I met a taxi driver who speaks English and is allowed to enter the baggage area of the airport. This is a extra help as trying to find a driver after departing the baggage area can be a little daunting. Everyone comes up to you asking if you need a driver. So, You can call the number and leave a text message with the name of the passenger, date of flight, time of flight (in 24 hour time to be sure of no mix-up), and the airline. They will go to the baggage area with a sign of the passengers name. Podgorica to Shkoder

by sideshow_s

From Podgorica to Shkoder is approximately 28 miles, the border lieing roughly halfway between the two cities. No scheduled transport of any kind operates across the border (Han I Hot) so the journey needs to be made by taxi. I got my hotel to order a taxi and was charged €20 for the trip to the border. Along the route my driver offered to take my all the way into Shkoder itself for an additional €40. I agreed as this was just a whole lot easier. At the border I did not note any Taxis waiting on either side though I would imagine it would not prove to difficult to order one. There is no longer a €10 entry and exit for entering Albania for EU citizens, I was charged a nominal €1 tax though. Once into Albania my dirver ensured I found my hotel before leaving me. He was a good guy, even had the legendry Caf del Mar playing in his car. Shkoder is not huge. From Montenegro you will come out...

From Tirana, Albania to Skopje, Macedonia

by Gjergj

Hello! I have just traveled from Tirana to Skopje. Using a buss is easy. Every day there are several buses from Tirana to Tetovo and vice versa. Buses from Tirana depart every evening at 9.00, from rail station of Tirana. It is situated only 1.2 Km in the north of central square of Tirana. Travel agencies are Drita and Pologu. The name of the bus is Polog. The ticket cost 15 euro one way, 25 two ways. At Tetovo the buss arrive at 5.00 next morning. It is not comfortable at all. You may found yourself in a buss full of farmers. Anyway. As I now, this is the only opportunity. From Tetovo is easy to go to Skopje. At buss station you can wait at maximum half hour for the buss to Skopje. It costs 100 denar, almost 1.5 euro. For what I now, using a taxi is not an option. Tickets can be brought directly in the buss. On Skopje, in the old Ottoman quarter, who can sleep on small hotels for 20...

Raund Albania

by Vlora_Ilir

If you wish to travel round Albania your best bet is to hire a taxi or use the bus.I’m not sure if there is a service in Tirana airport to hire a car. It may be one but you need to be aware of the poor condition on the roads. However there are plenty of taxis or you can use the bus service to central Tirana and from there you can get a bus to any city or region in Albania. The taxis are the safest bet and you can get one with no much cost provided that you agree to a price before you get in. I hope this will help you.

Driving from Dubrovnik to Meteoron

by JLBG

>>1. According to Michelin this trip takes 265 km in 4 hours along the E762 ( Shkoder, Tirane ), how realistic is that?At first sight, I felt that it was very unrealistic and checked with Michelin. Actually Dubrovnik-Kalampaka is 798 km and 12h08. I am afraid you made a mistake somewhere. If your goal is to drive as fast as possible from Dubrovnik to Meteoron, I feel you can do it in 12 hours. It is a shame not to visit Albania on the way but of course, it depends of your schedule ! If you can’t, you can’t ! I have driven almost the whole way between Dubrovnik and Tirana and the roads are good. Shkoder-Tirana is excellent. I have not driven Tirana-Bitola but as far as I know, the road is good.>>2. I´ve read here that you need to pay an insurance when entering the country, is that still up-to-date?It depends of your insurance. With my French insurance, I was OK as my Green...
